Hi minnie! Was so excited to see the teaser drop that I can't imagine what I'm going to be when we have an actual trailer!! I'm quite confused though, the teaser makes it seem that this was the first time they actually met in person, although i was under the impression that they'd already met at some point in 2023- 2024?
hi honey! i knowwww, look at the state we're all in after those five seconds of footage 🙃 this documentary will mean certain death for most of us (but what a way to go...)
oh yes, iirc, the official story they're going with for the doc is that they've got footage of the moment noel and liam met for the first time in in years, isn't it? (although i don't think what we saw in the teaser was that supposed footage - it seemed to me the teaser just meant to give that impression through clever editing, but who knows!)
however, i very much doubt that's true anyway. i just can't see it. i have to preface the rest of this by saying that there are other people in this fandom who no doubt have a much firmer grasp of the timeline than i do, so if anything i say here is blatantly wrong, feel free to correct me! but personally, i think noel and liam talked on and off over the years anyway, but were already in contact more frequently and consistently around or just after the time of noel's divorce. and i agree with you - it seems most likely to me that they first met up in private probably in 2023 or even before.
not least because apparently, the reunion tour was already in the works for about a year before it was announced in august 2024, and i think there's absolutely no way noel would've agreed to do a huge global reunion tour with liam without having met with him in person beforehand and feeling at the very least more comfortable around him again (and vice versa), and at least somewhat confident that this would actually work out. there was just too much at stake for him to commit to it otherwise imo, both personally and professionally (same for liam).
so it wouldn't make any sense for there to be footage of their "first meeting" because a) it just doesn't make sense chronologically, and b) i think they're far too private for that and too aware of how delicate the situation was at that point, you know? because no matter how candid they seem to be about their relationship, it's pretty obvious that there's a significant part of it that is still very private and will always remain that way. they are willing to let people share in their lives and relationship to a certain extent, but there are some doors they'll never allow cameras behind (to use one of noel's own beloved metaphors).
so aside from the fan experience stuff, the documentary is almost certainly going to be a carefully constructed narrative consisting of exactly what noel and liam are willing to share about their lives & relationship, and not a smidge more than that. as per usual with these guys, i believe there's going to be plenty of half-truths and white lies and lacunae in the narrative that most people will (pretend) not to notice (such as footage that's made to look like it's of the two of them meeting for the first time in years). we're just going to have to have to use our critical thinking skills and read between the lines to get the full story, just like we always do!
