We want to make this Easy-Peasy for everyone. But we need a few more folks to to join us! Three things that our Bent Tree Co-Captains need to do:

1. Talk with your fellow co-captain, and put together a plan to meet and say hello to more neighbors. 

2. Poll the 10-15 local residents on your street about 2 things: a) Want to install Neighborhood Watch signs, do you agree this is a good idea?  b) We are about 1/3 into our funding drive, can you help with $10, $15, or $20?  

3. Send your results to James, so he can keep tabs on total tabulations. 

That’s easy enough. Can you contact James and join our Bent Tree mission?

Other sources define the role more extensively: Block Captain Duties 

The key person is the Block Captain. An integral component to keeping the block actively involved in crime prevention efforts and information exchange between neighbors. Following is a list of recommended activities:

Periodically monitor the membership of your group. 

Contact new residents to get them involved and to obtain their participation. Update your membership list as needed. 

1. Develop a neighborhood communication system to distribute vital information to neighbors about concerns & activity that develop in the area: periodic newsletter, telephone tree, or a one-page notice. 

2. Try to arrange for your group to meet socially twice per year to exchange information, renew relationships, and  get acquainted with new neighbors.   The National Night Out (NNO) is one example that brings neighbors together.

4. Encourage neighbors to advise you about criminal activity. You can keep a record of any dangerous or illegal activity. Share this with neighbors. 

Oak Park Bent Tree Neighborhood Watch

Our thanks to everyone who took time from their family to attend our first meeting.

Next Meeting is August 31, 2-016 at the same place, Oak Park High School, Room G-9, by the library.

Everyone invited to attend, even folks from other neighborhoods.

We are all committed to helping make our homes and families safer.

Asking neighbors to donate just one hour each month, to be co-chairs of their block.  Proposed Duties:  Keep immediate neighbors updated on items of interest, recent suspicious and dangerous activity, successful sheriff activity, and keeping elderly folks updated on events.

We have strong support to install Neighborhood Watch Signs at the entries to our development.  We would like some folks to gather signatures of the 150 resident families, and collect the modest donations of $10 (or more), to pay for the needed signs and other items up and running, including  the costs of county installation.

Please donate $10 or more, at our meeting. This allows us to order Neighborhood Watch signs right away.  For those who cannot make it, call me today, and I can pick up your donation.
