New Zealand health system is in crisis with daily short-staffing, over loaded wards, overworked staffs. All the while we were offered an insulting 2% increase in pay....Needless to say it felt like a slap in the face.
We are graduates of a 3 year bachelor degree, we do half of the assessments for doctors, we listen to our patients/families non-health related problems and call over social workers, physios, occupational therapists, we monitor and maintain patient’s lives, we alert doctors when we notice declines, then jump onto patients to resuscitate them, we stay with crying patients and families...
We also have to continuously study to further our education, graduate nurses continue on doing post graduate papers while working full time. Don’t see us as “just nurses”.
Support our nurses, midwives, HCAs, New Zealand please care for us better so we can give better cares back.
