Vegan Confidence (Ode to Nyrobi)
Last weekend I met the most confident woman I have ever met in my life. While I was out with some girlfriends, she walked in and immediately all eyes were on her. I will confess most of the attention was because of her non-traditional fashion sense, but she glowed and oozed strength and self-love. I knew within seconds that I had to speak to her. My friends were not so keen on speaking to a woman with rhinestones all over her nails, but I loved her “quirky” style. My friends insisted her clothes, hair, and nails were over the top, but to me she was art in motion. I had to find out what this woman was all about.
I went up to her and I did something I wish more women would do to other women; I told her she was absolutely gorgeous. She politely responded with a thank you. As we began to converse I realized she was so aware of herself and what she believes and what she likes. That is where her confidence comes from. She was so sure of herself and willing to let anyone know it but not in a fake or phony way that can be off-putting. Her confidence was warm and inviting and actually made those of us around her feel more confident too.
I believe that sort of awareness can only come from spending time with yourself and learning to understand and appreciate the things that bring you joy. Throughout this month that I have been following a vegan lifestyle, I have been forced on a daily basis to reconnect with myself and remind myself why I made this decision; sort of reaffirming my beliefs through reflection. That type of inward reflection has also led to me discovering so many other things that I like and will pursue in the near future. Talking with Nyrobi also helped me realize I too am becoming more confident and self aware through this challenge to go vegan. Before this month I might have never gone up to her. I probably would have stayed with my friends whispering under my breath about how different she was. But choosing a vegan lifestyle has made me appreciate things that are different and has encouraged me to want to explore more of the things that are not mainstream.

Good luck with studying for exams. These past few weeks have gone by so quickly. Next week is technically our last week, since we have exams and step up program after that. This is really sad, I just want to stay a year 10 forever.
(Now I'm just rambling, this is all just so emotional. )
