Historic headline in today's NY Daily News: a democratic socialist, Zohran Mamdani, was elected mayor of New York City by an overwhelming margin over Andrew Cuomo, former governor of the state. The times, they are a-changing.
Today is the 50th anniversary of this headline, arguably the most famous in the history of the New York Daily News.
Coincidentally, 50 years later we have another Republican president with a similar attitude (but not speaking in hyperbole like Ford) as he takes away critical food assistance from needy Americans. (About 39% of food stamp recipients were children, while 20% were elderly and 10% were non-elderly individuals with a disability.) Also, on the side, he will authorize the wanton killing of Venezuelan fisherman, used for target practice by our military. I think the count is up to 57 dead now. But I digress...
