@ people responding to islamophobic/racist claims about zohran mamdani with stuff like “but he wears normal clothes and his wife wears mini-skirts instead of hijab!” and “they speak english!” and “he met his wife on a MODERN dating site, it’s not like they were arranged!” or “I didn’t even know he was Muslim!”
ok but what if she wore niqab? what if they didn’t fit your definition of what it means to be “modern”? what if they’d had an arranged marriage? would he no longer be the “good muslim” or “western” enough to be defended? why are the only arguments you can think of contingent on total assimilation and erasure of religion and identity?
why are we responding to blatant bigotry and anti-muslim hate with more bigotry and anti-muslim hate?
