This year our superheroes have resurfaced over 349 lane miles citywide #smoothstreets 🎉

Together with the New York City Department of Transportation, we unveiled two large-scale murals on outdoor stairs in the South Bronx. 

The murals were designed by Bronx-based artists and promote exercise among community residents. 

The rate of obesity in Morrisania and Crotona — the neighborhoods in the South Bronx where the murals are located — is the highest in New York City at 35 percent.

“Exercise is essential for good health, and taking the stairs is a quick and easy way to incorporate exercise into a busy day,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett. “Adding colorful murals is a way to encourage people in the South Bronx to take the stairs every day.”

I took over Broadway for Earth Day with these illustrated street signs raising awareness of environmental issues surrounding New York City.  Check out the full project on @behancenetwork​ @behance​

The New York City Department of Transportation is the agency of the government of New York City responsible for the management of much of New York City’s transportation infrastructure. Polly Trottenberg is the current Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, and was appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio on January 1, 2014.
