ā What's your rp pet peeve?
I get a little annoyed when people assume things about my muse in a godmoddy/powerplay-y/metagame-y way. Iām struggling to think of a good example at the moment since it happens so rarely, but itās usually stuff in-thread like:
[Character]Ā knew Nathan liked pineapple, so they ordered Hawaiian pizza.Ā
[Character] snapped,Ā āAnd you never put the milk away after you use it!ā
Again, those arenāt great examples lol, but hopefully the gist is there. Itās okay for a character to make assumptions about my muse, I donāt mind, but itās irritating when itās done in a way that leaves no room for my muse to contradict it. It just takes these assumptions and forces them to be treated like fact when there is no canon evidence for it and we havenāt discussed it.Ā
Naturally, there are exceptions, like if weāre really good friends and weāve been writing with one another long enough that we just know each other and our characters that well. For instance, I think Zeke, Payton, and Ingrid could write any kind of light (or heavy) godmodding and Iād be cool with it because they get me and they get my muse. But thatās super rare and honestly, please, just... talk to me. If youāre unsure about something, ask! If I come to you sayingĀ āhey, I loved your reply, but I donāt think my muse would say/do that because x reasonā, please try to work with me. If Iām asking, itās because I think itās important to my character. And the same goes for me! If I ever accidentally make an assumption that feels godmoddy, tell me! I donāt mind changing or full on retconning aspects of a thread if there was a misunderstanding.
⢠What fads/trends are you so over?
This is gonna be a wildly unpopular opinion... I really donāt like the trend of using Google Docs for rules and about pages. I donāt mind navigating away from tumblr to read stuff (Carrd is actually kind of cool!) but I have this impulsive need to keep my Google Docs clean. If Iām no longer using a document, I have to delete it. I hate the clutter. And every time I open someoneās doc, it gets saved on my account as a shared document, so I always have dozens of documents to delete one by one.Ā
ā What has made you completely lose your chill?
Not a lot? I think (anxiety aside) Iām a pretty chill person. Itās just rare for me to get angry, and if I do, I try to step back until I can think more calmly and clearly.
That said! Censorship of fiction within the RPC bugs me a lot. (Spicy take incomingā)Ā The only difference between a hobbyist and professional writer is that one is getting paid. I think roleplayers and fanficers should feel free to write whatever they please as long as itās tagged appropriately so that it can be blacklisted.Ā
Are there some topics that I personally wouldnāt touch and have no desire to read or write?Ā Absolutely! But I understand that itās my responsibility to curate my online experience by making use of the tools given to me, not the person writing whatever I donāt like.Ā
I also understand that writing x doesnāt automatically mean that the writer supports x in real life. Two of my favorite genres in fiction are horror and crime, and those genres are always going to contain a lot of nasty, disgusting, abhorrent stuff. Murder, torture, rape, incest... you name it and you can probably find something within that genre that touches or makes that thing the center of its plot. Do I think Stephen King or all the writers of every crime drama Iāve ever loved secretly support the awful things they make their awful characters do? No, of course not. Thatās absurd. If that was true of even half the authors out there, then weād have a lot of bestsellers in prison.Ā
This is probably the only thing that ever bugs me to any significant degree within the RPC because Iām so baffled by it.
