. Today’s Date: Greenland’s National Day
Today is Greenland’s national day, and for the first time in history the country’s flag will this year be flown from all 534 of the official state flagpoles across Denmark. The date was purposely chosen to coincide with the longest day of the year, when the sun hardly sets in most of the country and festivities can last all day and night.

Registration is now open for the 2016 Arctic Circle Greenland Forum. The Forum is organized in cooperation with the Government of Greenland -- Naalakkersuisut -- and will be dedicated to economic development for the peoples of the Arctic.
President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and Premier of Greenland Kim Kielsen will be opening a forum open to participants from the Arctic, Europe and Asia. It will be for discussing Arctic affairs surrouding “tourism, shipping, airlines, natural resources, as well as fisheries and living resources!”
There will also be discussions on “investment structures, the empowerment of indigenous peoples, health and well-being, research and innovation, and benefit agreements for local communities.”
This is a pretty interesting look into modern Greenlanders and their identities along with their role and relationship with Denmark and Danes.
