Fuck it, Dragon (and Dragonborn) headcanon time
Dragons do not have genders, as it is a mortal concept, and the term "Jill", while often used to refer to a Dovah that considers themselves "female", is more of a class of Dragon. They are incredibly powerful, likely equal to Alduin himself in power, but this power is vastly different from what Alduin has. They take care of time related issues, most notably Dragon Breaks. While Alduin and Paarthurnax could be considered Jills in power, proper Jills were created after Alduin was cast adrift through time by use of the Elder Scroll used by the ancient Tongues. They attempted to fix the Dragon Break that was created on top of The Throat of The World, but found they were unable to for reasons unknown to them at the time.
Although all Dov are made by Akatosh, Paarthurnax and Alduin are his only “true blooded” children, and they, along with Jills, are linked closer to him then others.
Dragons lack any reproductive organs, however they can reproduce, though it is incredibly rare. This is done by two partner Dragons linking their souls together, and both taking a small piece of each others souls to mold into one. The merged soul will take the form of a small glowing orb, with which then the partners will surround with Dragon scales, often their own, and bones, as well as small gemstones. The scales and bones will act as a “shell” that the soul will grow and form in until it takes a proper shape of a Dragon. It will then “hatch”, absorbing its shell, although it will not yet have grown any scales (imagine Alduin when his scale armor breaks off in Sovngarde, they look like that), and are completely silent due to not yet having a Voice. Due to this, Dragonlings, or Kiirdovah, are incredibly vulnerable, and both parents will be extremely vigilant and protective around their young. Kiirdovah take close to month to grow their scales, and usually gain their Voice very soon after, though some may take longer then others. Upon finding their Voice, they will begin to meditate to choose a name for themselves. Once a name is chosen, the growth of the Kiirdovah will usually speed up and become fully grown or close to it very quickly. Due to this, and the protective nature of the parents, very few have seen any Dragons while they are still small. Dragons will only ever have young once, though whether this is by choice or because they are unable to is not known.
Due to Dragons overprotective nature of their Kiirdovah, especially talented Imps crafted for themselves illusions to appear like Kiirdovah to anyone looking. The results of this varied in success, but it seems that this “clever” trick resulted in some Imps becoming “trapped” in their illusions and unable to change back. As a result any offspring these Imps also have the appearance of a Dragon. This continued until they eventually became a slightly different species, not a proper Dragon by any means, but not quite fully an Imp anymore either. It’s theorized that these Dragon Imps, also called Dragonlings by some, are what started the rumors of Dragons and baby Dragons in the Lilac Bay area of High Rock. Dragon Imps are often more intelligent then pure Imps, and have their own language that evolved from the main language of the Imps, and Dovahzul, the language of the Dragons.
Dragons are VERY social creatures, and while they can be content with the company of mortals, they crave the company of their fellow Dov more strongly. A Dragon left in the company of only mortals will begin to slowly lose their minds, although if they have a partner mortal (not romantic, more like a close companion and friend) this can be prevented. A Dragon in the company of only mortals that is trapped, however, such as Numinex/Numunnax, will very quickly deteriorate in mind and sanity. This leaves Dragonborn at odds, as they are both mortal and Dovah, and while they will be content with other mortal company, parts of them will always desire the company of a fellow Dov, whether they realize it or not, and this may begin to strain on their minds.
Each Dragon Priest had a partner Dragon, whom which would aid them in aspiring terror and obedience onto the lesser members of the Dragon Cult, while also keeping watch over their chosen Priest. The process of a Priest being bonded with a Dragon can take a while, as both Dragon and Priest must be able to work well together and “get along” to some degree, as the partnership will last until death. A Dragon who’s partner Dragon Priest has died is unlikely to partner with another Priest again.
It is theorized that when a Dragonborn dies, they will be “reborn” as a Dragon if they have absorbed a Dragon soul beforehand. Whether they keep their mortal memories or not is not known.
While a Dragonborn can become a Champion to a Daedric Prince, they are not guaranteed to go to whatever plane of Oblivion that Prince governs, and rather have a choice to go to whatever plane of any Prince they are Champion of, or their chosen afterlife, i.e Sovngarde. This is due to their Dragon soul, for just like a Soul Gem cannot trap and contain the soul of a Dovah, no Prince or being can truly claim hold on a Dragon soul as well. Or at least, they can’t unless the Dragoborn doesn’t know they have a choice to go where they wish upon death ;)
While the Bend Will can force others under the control of the user, it can also be used to break the hold of another over someone, without bending their will to the user. The stronger the control and powerful the master, the more the Shout has to be used, but it can be done.
The Dragonborn could potentially use the Shouts that Alduin used, such as the Dragon Resurrection Shout.
