On November 20, 284 AD, Numerian, a Roman emperor, was found dead while traveling through #Syria . His death was initially concealed by his father-in-law, #Arrius_Aper , the Praetorian Prefect, who was accused of his murder. Diocletian, then known as Diocles and commander of the imperial bodyguard, executed Aper in front of the army, claiming Aper had killed Numerian. This act led to #Diocletian being proclaimed emperor by the troops
