Hey remember this Nukejavi fic that I wrote haha yeah me neither anyways I have a drabble that's meant to be like wayyy later in the story wanna see it of course you do
Nick leaned against the banister of the porch, the termite ridden wood creaking against his weight.
He can't say he hasn't been out here often, in the backyard of Luke's Parent's farmhouse. Luke's parents, as misguided as they may be, made their attempts to support him as their son's best friend.
They clearly didn't quite understand why Nick was the way he was, but they still made it a point that he was always welcome at their home.
And when they invited him to their Friday family dinner, he didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary. Maybe it was a little odd that it came from them and not Luke, but Nick still came.
And then he saw that fucking baseball bitch that Luke just loooves so much. And vice versa, what luck.
Nick curled into himself, his hands shaking as he pinched the cigarette between his fingers just a bit too much. Then he heard the back door open.
Maybe it was Luke's mother. Maybe it was Luke. The former possibility is what stopped him from telling the intruder of his breath of fresh air to fuck off.
But, when he turned around, he came to the realization that he should've told them to fuck off after all. It was Javier. Nick grimaced and turned around with a poorly hidden eye roll.
“I just want to talk.” Javier murmured, closing the door behind him and standing next to Nick.
“Then talk, man. Ain't shit stopping you.” Nick huffed, taking a long drag from his cig. He's gonna need it.
“Dude, what is your problem with me?” Javi groaned, running a hand through his hair. “Ever since I've met you, you've been acting weird towards me.”
“My problem?” Nick whipped his head around to stare incredulously at the shorter man. “What's your problem? You've been acting like a dick when Luke's around.”
“This isn't about Luke.” Javi rolled his eyes, crossing his arms.
“No, actually, it fucking is. I know what you want from him.” Nick growled, fully turning to face Javi, and twisting the remnants of his cigarette into the banister.
“That's your hang up? That I wanna be in a relationship with your best friend?” It was Javi's turn to stare incredulously, and it wasn't until a moment of silence passed that realization dawned on his face. “Oh.”
“Look, Jah-vee-air,” Nick mockingly mispronounced Javi's name as he poked his chest. “You think any of this'll last? I've known Luke ‘long as I could walk, and I know that this is temporary. How long until the novelty wears off?”
“You asshole.” Javi glared, now exceedingly less willing to bridge the gap between them.
“That's all you are. A novelty. Just a shiny new toy with a pretty face and no fuckin personality.” Nick huffed with finality, both a weight off his shoulders and an ugly thing in his gut. It seems he struck a nerve, as Javi clenched his fist with a glower.
Well, fuck, he's gotten into plenty fights before. What's one more?
But before Nick felt the sting of a right hook, the back door opened again.
“There y'all are.” Luke breathed, opening the screen door and stepping out. He looked between the two, a bit of a confused look on his face. “Ma made brownies. Are- are y'all good?”
“We're fine.” Nick huffed, shoving past Luke immediately and into the house.
