The first CDs I ever bought myself with my own money were this and Mis-Teeq's Eye Candy, when I was 12. You ever revisit the media you consumed in your tender formative years and have a sudden realisation that a single album forms one of the cornerstones of your entire personality? I didn't realise that hearing Cherise singing "don't rely on no man for nothing coz if you do then you'll end up with nothing" in Gotta Get and Nadia rapping "getting money from your man, that's a no-no" in OK had such a profound effect on my young self, but I think that might be why I insist on being the chief breadwinner while Mr. Secondhand-Sounds cooks the dinner and minds the children.
