Arinaās twitter seems more preoccupied with advertising the eighth volume-illustration book-drama CD bundle, so Iām not finding anything recent there. The Chinese scans are up to Chapter 49, though, and those are usually really fast, so itās probably that, if not something close to it :)

Below the cut's a fairly detailed (1123 words XD;;) summary of the first chapter of Neko to Watashi no Kinyoubi, Arina's new series, from these scans. Please note that not everything might be a spot-on translation since my Chinese is awful, and I didn't review this too much, but hopefully it'll give the English-speaking fans at least some knowledge of what's going on while we wait for a scanalation group to pick this up or Viz'sĀ licenceĀ :). Ā *will post personal thoughts tomorrow*
āAs Friday makes its magic,
I have transformed into a princess
And the cat has turned into a prince.ā
After that Arina-esque monologue, it starts with a girl proclaiming, `_ is so handsome~ā. Her friend says, āThere you go again. How many times have you said that today?ā much to her mortification. She responds with an āeh? I said that out loud?!ā
She then introduces herself as Ai _ (I donāt know what the second character/word is in Romanized Japanese, and itās the same with her last name (I THINK itās her last name) that her crush refers to her by, so sheās Just Ai). She is a sixteen-year-old in her first year of high school who loves cute things and chocolate. She also has a crush on a guy one year older hereby known as Senpai Guy, who despite his popularity treats everyone kindly and remembers everyoneās namesā¦ālike a sun personā. I did not make that up. This is evidenced by his swinging his arm around Ai in greeting, sending her to the great and vast realms of young luhhhrvve while he moves forward to greet someone else. Ai reasons that thatās alright, since she gets to see him later in the day, as itāsā¦Friday. If anyone cracks a Rebecca Black joke I swear to Arina
It turns out Ai looks forward to every Friday because thatās when Senpai Guy visits the library, where Ai is like the class president of books idk that`s the best translation I can muster just know that she works/volunteers here . Ai helps him find a sequel to a book. This time, he brings her some of her favourite chocolate, which of course just fuels Aiās crush further.
Ai starts pestering her friend about whether or not Senpai has a girlfriend over the phone. The answer is no; he is openly single despite his admirers, stiff competition for Ai as she ādoesnāt have any prosā. Her friend reasons that since Senpai Guy is so kind to her, she may have a chance. Aiās mom comes in and says that Ai was offered a job as a tutor for a 5th grade (? I think thatās it?) kid hereby known as Nekota (Ćthis might actually be his Romanised real name idk itās the only chunk of English there on the scan as a gag and one of the Chinese characters is read as ātaiā). Ai mentions that sheās a 5/10 when it comes to grades. As soon as her mom mentions that Ai can earn some pocket money from the job, however, she quickly agrees. Ai remembers carrying Nekota to a hospital from a playdate in some cherry blossom forest a year ago, after he got a fever and fainted, but hasnāt talked to him since, despite them living in the same apartment complex.
As Nekota makes his grand entrance and I squeal, Ai remarks that heās incredibly cute and angelic. After a teary āI want to work hard yey!ā on Nekotaās part, Ai cheerfully promises to help.
Ai talks to her friend about how great tutouring Nekota is, how heās pretty wealthy and so she gets expensive Godiva chocolate from him that sends her into a chocolatey paradise XD;;. She tutors him every Friday, naturally. (Itās also mentioned that their school forbids them of having a job, which may be relevant later, but her friend says āthis counts as helping outā.) Senpai Guy pops out of freaking nowhere with a āwhat great thing happens on Friday?ā. Ai starts blabbering nonsense. Senpai is amused. I am annoyed. Senpai Guy goes on to call Ai cute and asking about her plans for Valentineās Day, how heās jealous of whoever receives Aiās chocolate. Ā When Ai points out that heāll be receiving plenty of chocolates from plenty of girls, he says that he only wants some from Ai, and asks, āWhy do you think I always go to the library? Because then I can see Ai. Donāt you understand my feelings?ā
My scans are cut off for the start of the following scene, but my best bet is that Ai is tutouring Nekota again and seems rather distracted due to her earlier encounter with Senpai Guy (either that or heās questioning her about writing her confession letter to Senpai Guy, I really donāt know). Ai starts hesitating about the confession letter sheās written (thanks to her friendās persuation), enraptured by her blossoming feelings and such cheese.
The next scene, set in the library, has Ai moving forward to give her confession letter to Senpai Guy. She also has some chocolate with her. In a burst of confidence, she is ready to give the letter! Untilā¦of course, she digs around her bag and canāt seem to find it. Panic, awkwardness, and hilarity ensues, especially when Ai starts imagining what would happen if others, had found her little letter.
When Ai`s friend suggests that maybe Ai try texting Senpai Guy, since her letter hasnāt been found and she canāt muster enough strength to tell him in person, she realizes that somehow his data had been erased from her phone. TRAGEDY, because itās not like she canāt write another letter or anything. She`s still moping around when she`s tutouring Nekota, who cheers her up by feeding her delicious strawberry white chocolate and telling her that when sheās upset, heās upset as well in that angelic manner of his.
This is when Ai discovers her love letter on the floor. Nekota states Senpai Guy`s e-mail address., and goes on to recite (from memory) some of her texts to Senpai Guy. He tells her to give up confessing and teases her about her letter (āthis was obviously written by someone thatās never been kissed beforeā), as well as the mention of his cuteness in a text message from Ai to her friend. Ai says that heās gone from an angel to the devil. When asked why he did all this, in a predictable turn of events, Nekota confesses his own feelings for Ai (both me and Ai note at this point that this is an elementary schooler talking..). He states that he fell in love with her when she was carrying him the year before and would love to receive some chocolate from her this Valentine`s Day. He says he only got her as a tutour to pursue her and was excited that she hadn`t a boyfriend yet before finding her confession letter, which sped up his āplansā. AI rejects him, but he does something that I canāt see because the scan Iām looking at is cut off. He delivers a warning before making his exit. Ai`s heart begins beating quickly and we`re left with me clawing at the screen for more.
