Why Nintendo Co., Ltd (ADR) (OTCMKTS:NTDOY) Launched “Mario Run” On Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Before Rival Operating Systems
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS users are enjoying the privilege of exclusivity to the new Mario Run title. This leaves Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google Android OS users untended to though there are rumors that it is also coming to the Android platform.
The early launch on the iOS platform was a strategic move for Nintendo due to various factors. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Super Mario Bros franchise told Fortune in an interview that they chose iOS because it is a stable platform.
“One of the reasons we focused on iPhone first was the stability of the platform and being able to get the level of response that we want out of the games.”
The developer also stated that Android platforms are also capable of the same level of responsiveness but there are so many Android devices. Engineering the game so that it will be compatible with all the Android devices will thus take a long time. Miyamoto’s statement highlights one of the negative sides of the Android platform, especially the OS fragmentation with many users still on older versions of the operating system.
Google seems to be having a hard time convincing users to upgrade to the latest OS version. Apple on the other has had it easier convincing iPhone and iPad users to upgrade to its latest operating system. The company recently launched iOS10 and a quarter of iPhone users have already migrated.
The Super Mario game has created a lot of excitement in the mobile world. The game is one of the most popular titles that Nintendo has ever made and it is expected to be the next big mobile hit after Pokemon Go. The excitement is however limited to iOS users for now because there is no release date for the Android version of the title.
Apple stocks closed the latest trading session at $114.62 with an improvement of $1.07 or 0.94% compared to the performance of the stock in the previous close.

Pokemon Go made it that much easier to illustrate a use case for augmented reality.
Virtual reality is an artificial world of images and sounds created by a computer that is affected by the actions of a person who is experiencing it
Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user's environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it.
Pokémon Go combines the use of AR technology with the GPS and camera functions of various smart devices. Pokémon Go prompts players to explore the real world in search of characters from the Pokémon franchise. After creating and designing an avatar, players view a main map that overlays real-world geographic details such as streets with in-game items and destinations, called PokéStops and Pokémon gyms. As the player moves in reality, the avatar moves on the AR map. When a player encounters a Pokémon, he has the option of viewing it in front of a digital background or superimposed over a real-world image in AR mode. In the latter case, the game utilizes the device’s camera to cause it to appear as if the virtual character exists in the natural world, making the player’s attempts at capturing the Pokémon seem all the more realistic.

Despite the recent #Pokemon pop, #NTDOY is down 62% from its November 2007 peak. This situation is sexily similar to where Nintendo was in 2006 (when Find Fat Fish invested heavily after reading about the Wii): An innovative idea following an idiotic idea. Millions of disgruntled #gamers, impatiently awaiting its arrival. Unsustainably pessimistic #investors, assuming next year looks like this year. A battered-but-not broken company that will probably shock the world, again, and will not go out of business. (“Your Clickbait, My Checkmate” #media #pessimism #exploitation from “Catch of the Month," 🎣 in bio) (at Penn Station)
“I mean this more about games than I do about God,” says Swim School scholar Coley Hauptfuhrer, "But #MarioKart and #DonkeyKong are the closest things I’ve had to a religion." Can you imagine the #NTDOY stock hysteria when those get repurposed onto smartphones? ("The Marvel of Mobile,” #futuristic #nostalgia from “Catch of the Month," 🎮🏎🚦 in bio) (at 37 Greenpoint Ave.)
“I’m a big believer in nostalgic intellectual property. It is one of the most underrated value propositions in business and marketing,” says @garyvee, nailing the bird’s-eye of what makes #NTDOY a strong long-term investment (“Oafish,” #DonkeyKong #arcade #flashback from “Catch of the Month," 🕹🍌🎣 in bio) (at New York, New York)
