Kade sat back with his head against the wall. His head was throbbing and he just did not have the strength to get back up. The nightmares still messed with his head and today was a bad day. Heâs been awake for two days and the few catnaps he was able to take, did not help all that much. It did not help that he had practical later in the day. Â
Knocking on the door startled him awake and he glanced up, blinking a few times. Â
âCome in...â he said, winching at the hoarse sound in his voice. Â
The door creaked opened and Killian stepped into the room, frowning at the drawn curtains.  âHey Keyâ he asked âWhatâs with curtains?â
âA bit light sensitive todayâ Kade muttered and slowly got to his feet. Â
Killian gave him a questioning look.  âYou good, buddy?â he asked âLooking a little pale over thereâ
âIâm tired, Killianâ he said âIs it time for the practical?â
âYeah, you sure youâre up for this?â Killian asked, jamming his hands into his pockets. Â
âDo I have a choice?â
âI guess notâ
âThen we should get going, Chronos is in charge today. Heâll catch a fit if we show up late and I donât have the energy to deal with him nowâ
Killian shrugged.  âCome on, letâs go then â he said.
Kade sighed and followed after him. His eyes only cast downwards so the light outside couldnât bother him to much. The light made the pounding in his head even worse. Â
âJust donât annoy Chronos to muchâ Killian said âBecause me and Bell can only do so much, cause Riley and Beck is uselessâ
That drew a chuckle from Kade.  âNot as much as you thinkâ he muttered and Killian laughed âThose two just live in their own world. And itâs going to take a while before we actually start getting alongâ
âThat just because you are an assholeâ
Kade shot Killian a flat look.  âYouâre the ass in this friendshipâÂ
***
It took Kade a moment before he realized what was going on around him. Slowly he opened his eyes. Everything around him was a mesh of blurred colours. His ears rang and he tasted dust and dirt and blood. Â
Over the ringing in his ears he could hear voices yelling and screaming, it sounded like a battlefield. Â
âOut of the way Killian!â a sharp voice snapped. It sounded slightly familiar, but Kade just couldnât put his finger on it. So it was probably someone that he knew but did not care about.
âNot a chanceâ Killianâs voice snapped âYou want to get to him, you have to go through meâ
Stupid Killian, he should leave him and take care of himself. There was no need for his friend to protect him. Thatâs just stupid. Â
âKillian donât be and idiotâ another voice snapped. Â
Kade pressed a hand against his head. The headache felt like it was going to kill him. Every part of his body ached. A hand caught his shoulder when he tried to sit up. Â
âCrap...â he groaned, letting his head roll to the side so he could try and make out who was talking to him. Although it sounded like Bell, he had to make sure about it. Â
âIâm not going to let you take himâ Killian voice snapped again.
âWhatâs... going on?â Kade asked when he eyes finally focused on Bell. Â
The girl smiled slightly.  âAre you with us again?â she asked, glancing to where Killian stood.
âI think soâ he groaned âI feel like Iâve been blown upâ
Bell laughed softly.  âYou have been blown up, by Gunter and his teamâ she said âWeâve been taking care of youâ
âThat...â he hesitated for a moment âSounds about rightâ
Kade pressed a hand against his head.  âDid I hurt anyone?â he asked, leaning forward, feeling slightly sick to his stomach. Â
Bell shook her head.  âYou protected us, but did not hurt the other studentsâ she said âSo donât worry about it, just leave this to me and Killianâ
âSorry...â he muttered âIâm causing trouble for you guys againâ
âKillian!â a voice growled âLet us throughâ
âLike hell Iâm doing thatâ Killian snapped again. Â
âWhat the heck is wrong with you?â the voice growled âJust let us take him and this will be all overâ
âWe will not let you take himâ Bell said, getting to feet and stepping in front of Kade, behind Killian âIf you lay one hand on him, I will rip you apart. Piece by tiny little pieceâ
Kade just stared up at the two. His eyes still did not want to focus completely, his head felt like it was going to explode. The rest of him did not feel any different. He could feel the edge of his control slowly slipping away. Â
It took him a moment before he was able to pull his legs up and slowly stand up, pressing a hand against the wall to keep him steady. Â
He stood there watching his two best friends, shielding him from the rest of the class. There were a few faces missing, like Riley and Beck.
For a moment he was almost worried about those two. Â
âWhy are you two so protective of him?â another, which seemed to be an injured Gunter asked.Â
Killian pulled a face at the man.  âWhy wouldnât we?â he asked âHeâs our friendâ
âCome on, Killianâ another one of the students said âAnd you as well Bell. Thatâs just stupid, but we will take himâ
âNot a chanceâ Killian said. Â
âKillian!â Kade called out, but he was to late. Trip and his crew sneaked up from behind. For a moment he lost his control on his shadows. Shadows surged around them, forming a wall between Killian and Bell and the others. Â
Another bolt of pain shot through Kadeâs head and the shadows disappeared and he crumbled again.
Before he hit the ground, hands caught him and carefully lowered him to the ground. Â
âBell told you to take it easy, you moronâ a voice said. Â
Kade groaned and looked over at Beck and Riley.  âYou...â
âYeah, usâ Riley said âNow donât go getting any ideas. Weâre doing this because Bell asked and we still owe you for back when Killian got takenâ
For a moment, Kade snorted, but didnât say anything. Â
âYou better not clock out on usâ Beck said âIâm not going to be the one that tells Killian we left you worse than we found youâ
Kade snorted.  âCareful there, Beckâ he muttered âYou almost sound like you careâ
âWell your two friends over there, nearly threatened us if we donât help youâ Riley said, giving one of Tripâs team members a glare that could melt steel âThey are really protective of youâ
âWhy?â Kade asked frowning slightly.
âBeats me, cause youâre an assâ Riley said and held out his hand âLetâs get going. Weâve got a âmissionâ to finishâ
Kade swore and allowed Riley to help him to his feet. He took a deep breath, but did not move.  âJust so you knowâ he said, through clenched teeth âIâm pretty protective of them as wellâ
He closed his eyes and drew on his shadows. They ripped through him, bursting through everything around him, surging up around him. Darkness engulfed him. The darkness exploded from around him and threw everything in darkness. Â
âTouch themâ he growled âAnd Iâll be the one to finish you ofâ
âKadeâ Bell voice said through the darkness âDonât go overboardâ
âImma knock them outâ Killian yelled.Â
After a few minutes shouts sounded from the darkness and then Bellâs ethereal light illuminated the area.  Kade flinched, but did not let go of his shadows. He could feel them starting to burn his skin, knowing that there was going to be black marks left behind.Â
âAlright... I think thatâs the last of themâ
Kade slowly allowed the shadows to dissipate. There was a smirk on his face when the shadows finally cleared. Â
Twisted Fate - A terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day
âAnd what do you plan on doing?âÂ
âDo you really think that this will end well for you?â
âYou couldnât even protect your own father and sisterâ
âThereâs nothing that you can do anymoreâ
âYou are a killerâ
âA murdererâ
âA villain...â
Kade stumbled back, hitting the wall behind him. All he could do was stared at the rotting faces in front of him. Â
It couldnât be real. What he was seeing could not be real. Â
His heart hammered against his chest. He couldnât breath.  âNo, no, no.....â he muttered, clamming his hands over his ears. He couldnât take the voices any more. Every single on of them were burned into his mind.Â
They were the people that heâd kill when he was younger. All of those faces. He killed them. Every single one of them, he ripped them apart, felt their blood on his hands, heard their screams when they died.Â
He could feel himself trembling. Â
If this kept on going, he was going to loose his control over his power. He could feel it burning beneath his skin. Â
It needed to stop.
âSTOP!!â he screamed âMake it STOP!â
The rotting figures laughed, crawling and limping closer. Kadeâs breathing caught in his throat and he tried to scramble even further away from them. Â
âIâm.... sorry....â he whispered. Â
The people laughed. Â
âYou killed us...âÂ
âRipped us apartâ
â...with no regret...â
Kade sank down to the ground, pulling his knees up against his chest.  âPlease....â he whispered, shutting his eyes âPlease... Iâm not.... I didnât...â
A figure stepped between the rotting corpses. Â
Kade could feel himself going white as a sheet, all the blood leaving his face. It couldnât be real. His breathing spiked, it felt as if his throat was being crushed. Â
He couldnât breath.

Bell closed her eyes, pressing her hands over her ears. All she could hear was the screaming. She was not sure what they did to Kade, but he was a mess. His shadows surged everywhere, burning almost everything around them. The creatures of darkness, snarled and hissed, bloodying everyone that got caught in them.
âWhat are you doing to him?â she yelled and shot to her feet, startling Killian that sat next to her. Â
âBell what are you doing?â he hissed âDo you want to get into even more trouble?â
Bell glared at him.  âYou hear that donât you?â she said âHeâs freaking outâ
âHe freaked out before...â Killian started.
âNot like this.... This is differentâ Bell interrupted âCanât you hear it?â
Killian sighed, pulling his legs up against his chest.  âI knowâ he muttered âBut if we do anything, all of us will get into even more troubleâ
Bell walked over to the door, arms crossed. Â
âI know thatâ she said âDo you really think I donât know, but just listen to that. Heâs going to lose it and then everyone will be in troubleâ
Killian shut his eyes tightly, clenching his hands together. Â
âI want to help himâ he muttered âYou know I do, but right now weâll get into more trouble than we can handleâ
âWeâll handle that tooâ Bell said and hit the door âWe need to handle itâ
Killian got to his feet.  âThen letâs get out of here and handle it before he handles things and make it all worseâ
Bell closed her eyes, resting her forehead against door. Â
Without warning the screaming stopped. Â
âOh hell...â she muttered âLet us out!â

Kade felt the darkness lifting from his mind. Every part of his body hurt, his mind felt like it was being torn apart. There was soft whispers coming from all around him. Â
The voices of the dead. Â
It took him a while before he was realised that he could smell something different. It was sweet, tickling the back of his throat. He rolled up on his side, eyes snapping open before he threw up. Â
He shook as he pulled back, wiping a hand over his mouth. Slowly he looked up. He wasnât in the cell anymore. It was a different place this time. Â
Hands grabbed his arms, pulling him to his feet. The world turned and he almost fell down again. Â
âOpen your eyes Boy!âÂ
A hand grabbed his hair and pulled his head back. His eyes snapped open and for a moment all he could do was stare. Â
âLet them go...â he said coldly âLet them go...â
Killian and Bell were on their knees in front of him, dark figures held guns to their heads. Â
âLeave them alone...â he said slowly, feeling cold, like he couldnât breath.Â
âThey are my hostagesâ a voice said âDo you remember my name, Boy?â
Kade flinched.  âLet them go...â he whispered âPlease.... Let them goâ
âRemember Boyâ the voice said âRemember who I am. Pleading doesnât work on meâ
âYou canât...â he said.
âI can do anything, Boyâ the man said âRemember...?â
Kade started hyperventilating, his breathing coming in short gasps.  âYou canât... â he gasped â....I killed you.... You died...â
The man smiled, blood dripping down his chin.  âOh you should have made sure that you finished the job, Boyâ he said looking down at Bell âSheâs so pretty. Is she one of your friends? Maybe a girlfriend?â
All he could do was stare at his friends. They were scared and there was nothing that he could do about it.
âTell me what I want to hear and I will let them goâ
Kade flinched and shook his head.  âNo....â he whispered âIâm not... Iâm not one of you... No...â
âKade....â a soft voice said âItâs alright. You donât need to do itâ
Bell. She was talking to him. He could see her mouth moving, but all he could do was stare. Â
âDonât do it, Kadeâ Killianâs voice said âDonât let him break youâ
Kade shut his eyes tightly and shook his head as his body just gave in. His head swam, chest felt tight, his heart felt like it was being squeezed.Â
âOpen you eyes, Boyâ the man said.
âNo....âÂ
âOPEN. YOUR. EYES!â the man screamed.
Kade flinched, eyes snapping open. Â
âWatch me...â the man said and pulled the trigger.
Blood sprayed the ground as Killian just fell limply forward. Bell let out a scream. Kade just stared, unable to understand what just happened. Â
The gun fire echoed through the room again. Â
He started trembling, staring at the bloody bodies of his best friends. There was rushing in his ears. Â
âNo... no... no...no...âÂ
Something in his mind snapped and he screamed, reaching for his power. It burned through him and felt like it was eating him from the inside.Â
***
Bell and Killian both shot to their feet when the shadows surged and completely disappeared. A high pitched wailing, scream sounded through the air before going silent. Â
âWhat the hell was that?â Killian asked, his eyes wide.
âI... donât knowâÂ
All the light disappeared from the door and both of them stepped back away from it, glancing at each other.
The door shattered and a shadowy figure stepped inside. Slowly the shadows started bleeding away, revealing Kade. The green eyes were cold and empty and strangely off. Â
Kade lifted a hand, pressing his fist against his head as he stared at them. His hand shook, eyes jumping around. Â
âKade...â Bell whispered, eyes wide. Â
â....alive...â Kade whispered. He let out a groan, pressing with hands against his head as he sank to his knees. Â
âThe hell just happened?â Killian asked softly.
The two quickly walked to Kade, but the moment he saw them, he scrambled back onto his feet and away from them. The shadows surged again, rising around him. Â
Killian blinked a few times, staring Kade before he frowned. Â
There was something wrong with his face. The shadows kept half of it hidden, almost looking like blood that ran down his face. Â
âKade, are you alright?â he asked carefully.
Kadeâs breathing spiked, but didnât say anything. His eyes jumped to something that they couldnât see, before returning to them. One hand kept on clenching and relaxing, trembling.Â
âNo no no no no no no....â he muttered, struggling to breath. Â
He shut his eyes tightly, pressing one trembling hand against the side of his head again. When he opened his eyes, they were still looking for something else in the room. Â
Kade didnât know what was real anymore. His mind had taken to playing more and more tricks on him. No matter what he did, he couldnât get away from the hallucinations. Â
Again he had Killian and Bell in front of him and he didnât know if they were real or maybe the corpses he left in the other room were the real ones.Â
At least the rotting faces werenât real. Â
He hoped they werenât real. Â
âKade?â Killianâs voice asked âCan you hear me?â
He looked up and quickly glanced away. Killianâs face looked like it was half blown apart now. Â
Not real. It was not real. But what was real then?
âI... â he started, but just pressed his hand harder against his head. Â
Shadows moved around him. For a moment he could have sworn he saw his Father standing behind Bell, half off his jaw ripped of. Â
âCome on buddyâ Killianâs voice said, drawing his attention back âItâs alright. Weâre fine, we need to know if you are alright?â
Kade managed to shook his head. The voice started whispering again. Â
Bell took a deep breath and walked up to Kade.  âKadeâ she said softly âWe need to leave. Alright?â
âWill that make them... stop?â he asked, looking at her. Â
âStop what?â Bell asked softly.
âThe hallucinationsâ another voice said from behind.Â
Killianâs head snapped towards the voice.  âChronos?â he asked, anger filtering into his voice âWhat the hell did you do to himâ
The teacher shook his.  âThis was not usâ he said.
Kade spun around, the shadows surging around him. He shrunk away from Chronos with a hissing growl.  âBastards....â he snapped and started scratching with his trembling hand against his head âYou did this....â
âNo, we didnât do thisâ Chronos said. Â
Kade glared at him, flinching as Chronos were surrounded by broken and bloody bodies. Â
With a scream he sank down to his knees, trembling hands covering his ears. Eyes shut tightly. He couldnât take it anymore. He had enough, so he just let go. The darkness washed over him.
Killian just watched as Kade crumbled, his scream fading into nothing. Â
âKade!â Bell called out and rushed forward, falling to her knees next to him. She carefully pulled him into her arms. Â
She could feel him still trembling, his breathing came in short, shallow gasps. When his eyes flickered opened again, they jumped from one place to another, as if he was looking at things that they couldnât see. Â
Carefully she started stroking his hair.  âHush now...â she whispered âEverything will be alrightâ
A shiver went through his body as his eyes focused on something behind her. Â
â...ghosts...â he muttered.
âThey are not realâ Bell said, softly stroking his hair from his face âI am real and Iâm right here, so you can close your eyes now. Everything will be alrightâ
