Kade ignored the pain that tore through his chest. He couldnât breath anymore, but he needed to finish this. For a moment the world around him went out of focus. His chest hurt. Everything started turning. His body felt weak.
A figure appeared in front of him. It was a woman. Â
She was talking to him, but he couldnât hear her voice through the rushing in his ears. A hand touched his shoulder and he flinched, his shadows wrapping tightly around him. Â
Kade started trembling and he fell forward. Â
Arms caught him, gently lowering him to the ground. He gasped for breath, slowly feeling himself slip into darkness. There was a voice talking to him, but he still couldnât make out the words. Â
âIâm... sorry....â he muttered as he fought against darkness, trying to keep his eyes open, but they were getting to heavy and it was getting harder to breath. He shivered. The cold was back, soaking into his bones, making him shiver.
The voice spoke again, but the words started to fade into nothing.
Slight warmth touched his hand. Then he was moving. The movement made him feel sick, his heartâs rhythm becoming uneven. Â
The darkness called him. Â
He tried to open his eyes again. They did not want to work. The voice walked, he felt calm with it, but as it disappeared he started feeling a panic rise in his chest. Â
His heart beat became erratic. Sounds muted completely. He tried his best not to give him, but it was to much. He couldnât take it anymore. Â

Bell climbed into the ambulance, nodding at Riley and Beck.  âI will stay with himâ she said as the doors closed and she turned her attention back to Kade. Â
She could feel her heard squeezing, painfully.  He was so pale, with dark circles under his eyes. The medical personnel had him on oxygen, monitoring his heartbeat, which had become erratic and fast. One of the EMTâs placed a hand on Kadeâs chest. For a moment his heartbeat wavered before slowing down slightly. Â
âHis heartbeat is too erraticâ one EMT said. Â
âHe needs to be stabilizedâ the other one said. Â
Bell took Kadeâs limp hand. The heart monitor beeped a few times as Kadeâs heartbeat calmed slightly, taking a more steady rhythm than before. Â
âPlease...â she whispered, ignoring the movement around her âPlease donât do this to me... You cannot leave me here alone. Donât go where I cannot follow you...â
Tears started filling her eyes, running down her cheeks. Â
It barely registered with her when they stopped at the hospital. Only when they pulled Kadeâs hand from her grip, did she came back to herself. Her eyes widened and stepped forward, reaching to Kade again, but hands caught her shoulders, pulling her back. Â
âBellâ RIleyâs voice said as Beck appeared next to her. Â
Bell bit back a sob. Â
Riley gently took her shoulders, turning her around.  âHey...â he said âItâs alright... Kayâs going to be alright. Youâll seeâ
âI...â she cried âHeâs just... Now both of them... What if...?â
Riley pulled her into a tight hug.  âNo...â he said âThey are going to be fine. Youâll seeâ
âLetâs go insideâ Beck said âWe wouldnât know if anything happens, if we stand around here. And we need to get Killian updated on whatâs happeningâ
Bell allowed Riley to lead her into the hospital. Â
First Beck went to check up on Killian, before joining Riley and Bell in the waiting room. Â
âHave you heard anything?â he asked. Â
The two shook their heads. Beck barely sat down when a doctor entered the room. Â
âNightShadeâs friends?â he asked and the three nodded âHeâs in the ICU right now. You can go in to see him, but I have to tell you that he is still in critical conditionâ
âWhat do you mean?â Riley asked, placing a hand on Bellâs shoulder. Â
âHis heart is failingâ the doctor said âWe are going to keep him under, until weâre sure that his body can handle the stressâ
Riley clenched his jaw. Bell gasped, her eyes widening and Beck just sat down on the chair. There was a shocked silence in the room. Â
âI canât take this anymoreâ Riley said and pulled out his phone âIâm calling Vynalâ
âYou got his number?â Beck asked, lifting his head hopefully.Â
âKillianâ Riley said âHe gave it to meâ
Beck nodded.  âYou call him. Weâll go check on Kayâ
Kadeâs room was clear and empty and cold. Â
He lay motionless on the bed. There was blankets over him, a heart monitor next to the bed.  The ventilator whooshed again and Kadeâs chest rose. Â
Bell slowly walked over to the bed. Kade looked so pale. There was barely any colour in his face. She took his hand. It felt cold. Every now and then the heart monitor would give an irregular beat, startling Bell.
âWhat did he do?â Beck asked softly, disbelieve in his voice âIs this really Kay?â
Bell just shook her head, brushing some of his dull hair out of his face.  âHe knowsâ she said softly âVynal told him this could happen, but he... he still went with themâ
âThey would have thrown him into isolationâ Beck said âHe didnât have much of a choice. You know what would have happened is they put him in there againâ
âAnd how is this better than that?â Bell asked, motioning to all the medical equipment that stood around Kadeâs bed âI donât want to see him in a hospital bed or the isolation room. It shouldnât have to be like thatâ
âI know...â Beck whispered. Â
âThereâs nothing we can do for himâ Bell said âAt the rate heâs going, he will die before he ever reach his 21ste birthdayâ
Beck looked around in the room, before pulling the lonely chair in the corner over to the bed.  âWhy donât you sit down, Bell?â Beck said. Â
She glanced at him before nodding and sitting down, all the while holding Kadeâs hand. Â

Killian opened the door and slipped inside. Kade was still in a coma. They havenât managed to a hold of Vynal yet, and even Ruelle wasnât answering her phone. Â
Bell was there.
She was always there. Sitting next to the bed, holding Kadeâs hand, watching over him. Â
âBell?â Killian asked as he walked over to the bed. Â
âKill?â Bell asked, quickly looking towards him and smiling slightly. Â
Her eyes were puffy and red. Sheâd been crying again. Killian shook his head as he walked over. He was going to kill Kade for making her cry this much. Â
âAnything changed?â he asked. Â
âNo...â she said softly âNothing changed. Heâs not getting worse and heâs not getting better. We need Vynal or another healer right now... Someone that can...that can...â
The tears started running down her cheeks again and Killian handed her a packet of tissues. Â
âItâs alright...â he said softly, rubbing her back âHeâll be up and annoying everyone in a few daysâ
âKill...â Bell said âIâm scaredâ
âItâs alright...âÂ
âWhat if.... What if he does... he doesnât wake up? What then? What am I supposed to do then?â
Killian sighed and just pulled Bell into a tight hug.  âItâs alright, Bella... You can cryâ
For a few minutes they just sat there, while Bell cried. When she finally stopped crying, Killian went back to his room.Â
Bell took Kadeâs hand again. Â
âDonât you ever do this again...â she said âWhy do you always do this? You go and leave me behindâ
She shook her head.  âStop going where I canât follow youâ she said, resting her head against his fingers âI canât take it anymore... I canât keep on seeing you like this...â
âI canât... take seeing you...get hurtâ a whispering voice said weakly.
