Xantria - Pinned
Reiken walked slowly through the trees. He felt tired, but better than usual. Itâs been a rough few days with less than enough sleep. A horde of demons came down the mountain. Â
Hein and the others wanted to help and he had to teach them how to fight some of the smaller demons. They were really happy about it. Â
He wanted to go home and sleep for a little while. Â
Soft howls sounded through the trees and Reiken stopped for a moment. He blinked, tilting his head slightly and listened. Â
It didnât sound like it was coming from close by, but he couldnât determine where it was coming from. That sound. He did not recognize the demon that might be making the sound. Â
He shook his head and started walking again as shiver running through his body from the cold air.
It took him a moment, but he decided to turn back to the village. There was still some things that he needed to do and he did not want to be away from the people while he wasnât sure what that demon was. Â
Theyâve been seeing more and more new types of demons. He was not going to leave Hein and the others to take on some new type of demon.
He barely made it halfway back down, before the demons attacked.

Hein and Gruen stood in the kitchen washing the dishes. Â
âHow the hell did they get us to do this?â Hein grumbled, shaking his head.
âHow should I knowâ
âI hate thisâ
âI knowâ
âMake sure those dishes are cleanâ Leia called just as they all heard a thump from the front door, followed by a groan. Â
Hein and Gruen looked at each other before they quickly made their way to the door. A knocking came before they reached it. Â
âHein...â a weak voice said from the other side. Â
âThatâs Reiâ Gruen said and quickly opened the door.
Reiken was leaning against the doorframe, holding his arm tightly against his body a pain expression on his face. Â
Hein and Gruen quickly caught him as he fell forward.Â
âDonât touch it...â Reiken gasped, turning so his arm wasnât close to the other two.
âReiken?â Leia and Saffron asked as the three guys stumbled into the living room. Their eyes widened as they saw Reikenâs arm. It almost looked like there was something wrapped around it, while blood dripped down his fingers. Â
âWhat the hell is that?â Saffron asked, eyes focused on Reikenâs arm. Â
âDemon...â Reiken managed to say âI... need...â
âYou need help?â Hein asked, but before Reiken could say anything, his body started convulsing. If it werenât for Hein and Gruen he would have fallen. They lowered him to the ground.
âThat thingâ Gruen said âWe need to get it of himâ
âHow do you want us to do that?â Hein asked âIt looks like its attacked to his arm somehowâ
âCut it...â Saffron said âWe cut it ofâ
The convulsions stopped and Reiken just lay limply on the ground. It took a while before his eyes slowly flickered open. Â
âRei?â Hein asked, leaning over him. Â
âGet... it off...â Reiken gasped, clenching his jaw against the pain. Â
The others cussed.  âHow?â Gruen asked. Â
Reiken groaned, his eyes rolling back as the convulsions started again. Blood started staining the floor. Â
âHold him downâ Leia said as he quickly got to her feet and ran to the kitchen âWe need to get that thing of himâ
Hein caught Reikenâs shoulder and pushed him down against the ground, while Gruen held down his legs. The convulsions stopped again when Leia return, handing Hein the knife. Â
âGet that thing of himâ she said and took his place. Â
Saffron quickly went to find the medical bag, putting it down next to Hein. She held out a pair of gloves to him. Â
He took it, pulling them on before he pulled on the thing around Reikenâs arm. Â
Reiken screamed, back arching. Â
âIâm sorry...â Hein said, gripping the slimy body of the demon and pulled again. Â
This time Gruen quickly move to pin Reiken down, so that Hein could work without worrying that heâd cause extra pain to their friend. Â
Clenching his jaw, Hein stabbed the knife into the demonâs body. It visibly tightened around, Reikenâs arm, causing him to scream again, trying to pull away from Hein. Â
âKeep goingâ Gruen said with a grunt. Â
Hein clenched his jaw as he started cutting through the demon around Reikenâs arm.  âCome on, buddyâ he said âYouâre gonna be alright... Weâre going to take care of you...â
Reiken slumped down again, his breathing wheezing through his chest. Â
As Hein finished his first cut, he started pulling the piece away from Reikenâs arm. Blood ran down his arm. Strange strings pulled out of Reikenâs arm, causing more and more blood to pool beneath him. Â
Saffron jumped and pressed a cloth against the wound.
Hein took a deep breath and looked at Gruen. Â
Gruen nodded.  âKeep goingâ he said âWe need to get that thing of himâ
âKeep him downâ Hein said âThis is going to get badâ
âIâll do my bestâ Gruen said âYou know how strong he isâ
Hein clenched his jaw as he began sawing through another piece of the demon. Reikenâs thrashing became worse and his screams hoarse. Â
Slowly they managed to pull the pieces of the demon from Reikenâs arm. Every time Hein removed a piece, Saffron pressed a cloth against it, to try and stop the bleeding. Â
As the last piece fell off, Hein pulled back, wiping the sweat from his face. Â
Reiken just slumped to the ground, breathing irregular, shivers running through his body. Leia let go of his shoulders and quickly ran to bring bowl of water over. Together the girls cleaned Reikenâs arm and bandaged it. Â
When they finished, Gruen gently picked him up and carried him to the bedroom. Â
âWhat the hell was that?â Hein asked as he just sagged back against the wall. Â
âI donât know...â Gruen said âHe never mentioned any demon like that beforeâ
âI looked like it was hurting him, sucking something out of himâ Leia whispered âWe donât even know if itâs going to have...â
Reiken groaned and moved slightly, everyone turned towards him. Smell beads of sweet dripped down his face. Â
Saffron quickly stepped over to him, putting the back of her hand against his cheek. She blinked.  âHe has a feverâ she said looking over at the others. Â
âIâll get some cold water and a clothâ Leia said and quickly left the room. Â
âLetâs go clean upâ Gruen said softly and pulled on Heinâs arm âThereâs nothing we can do hereâ
Hein nodded and the two left the room just as Leia came back. Â
Gently Leia and Saffron wiped the sweat away. Â

Reiken knew that there was something wrong, it felt like he was moving through some kind of dream like state. Â
His body hurt. It felt like his arm was on fire. It felt like it was burning. There was voices floating around, but he couldnât make out what they were saying. He was in trouble and he knew it, but there was nothing he could do. Â
Heat burned through him. Â
There was something cool against his face. It felt good. He tried to reach for it, but his body didnât want to move.
Leia sighed as she sat down on the bed. Reikenâs hand twitch and she quickly took his in hers, stroking the back of his hand.  âShhh.... Itâs going to be alrightâ she whispered as Saffron changed the cloth on his forehead. Â
âCome on, Reiâ Saffron whispered. Â
A soft whimper sounded from Reiken and then he started moving restlessly. He shivered and then his eyes flickered open. They were fevered and confused, barely able to focus on anything. Â
âReiken?â Leia asked, his fingers curled around her hand, squeezing it slightly. Â
He turned his head slightly.  âLeia... Saffron?â he asked, voice hoarse and weak. Â
âYeah, itâs usâ Saffron said before turning away âReiâs awake!â
Footsteps came rushing towards the room before Gruen and Hein burst through the door. Â
âReiken?â they asked. Â
Reikenâs eyes flickered towards them before slowly closing again. Â
The two sighed. Â
âDid he say something?â Hein asked.
The girls shook their heads. Â
âNoâ Saffron said âHe looked very confused. Iâm not sure he even knew what was going around himâ
They nodded. Â
âThe floor is cleanâ Gruen said. Â
âWe burned the demon partsâ Hein said. Â
âThank youâ Leia said. Â
When Reiken woke up again, his head felt slightly clearer. He blinked at the ceiling and slowly sat up. The moment he tried putting weight on his right arm, pain shot through him and he just collapsed back, gasping. Â
The door burst open. Hein and Leia quickly came in. Â
âReiken?â
He blinked at them before trying to sit up again. Hein quickly stepped forward and helped him up.  âEasy now, Reiâ he said.
âWhat happened?â Reiken asked slowly. Â
Leia breathed out.  âHow are you feeling?â she asked. Â
âSick...â he said quietly and looked down âSorry...â
Hein pulled away.  âDonât apologizeâ he said âWeâre just glad you came to us for help. I donât want to think what would have happened if you didnâtâ
Reiken frowned and looked at his arm.  âThere... was a demon?â he said hesitantly and the other two nodded. Â
âWhat happened... to it?â
âWe killed itâ Hein said âHad to tear it of your arm. It looked nastyâ
Reiken nodded, without warning his eyes just fluttered closed and he fell to the side, forcing Hein to catch him. Â
âHe needs to sleepâ Leia said softly. Â
