Summary:
“Hey, so please don’t freak out–”
In the next moment, Carlos could hear a thud, followed by a curse, and he was pretty sure the guy had just hit his head somehow. Carlos winced in sympathy.
“Sorry! Sorry, it’s just your neighbor here.”
“Dude,” came the reply, the voice sounding rough, probably from all the crying. “Way to give a person a heart attack. Also, creepy much?”
“My apologies. The walls here are basically paper with some paint slapped on. So uhm… noises are somewhat muffled but… not really, I guess.”
~*~
3 times Carlos only heard his neighbor’s voice, 2 times TK lusted over a certain officer, +1 time it all melted together.

I cannot thank my team enough 🥰 @juuls, @a-kinkajou, this was such a wonderful experience!! thank you so much for putting up with me, tolerating my rambles and my writer's block, agreeing to switch fics when I panicked, and always cheering me on - and of course for the AMAZING podfic and art respectively that you two created for this fic. I truly hope this will only be the first of many projects we will work on together 😘
Sneak peek and more art under the cut:
one
When the first sniffles came through the wall, Carlos was startled, turning in his bed where he was cocooned in his blankets, book in hand, and in the process of winding down. It was his first night home after a week straight of night shifts and it was his goal to quickly get back into a normal sleep rhythm, even though he wasn’t remotely tired.
The sniffling sound that very clearly came from the room adjacent to his didn’t help in that endeavor, setting all his senses on high alert right away.
As far as he knew, the apartment next to his had been empty for the last few months. Someone must’ve moved in during the week – which was entirely possible, seeing how Carlos hardly had any free minutes between his shifts, helping on the ranch for two days, and covering some extra shifts so Mitchell could visit her sick mom.
What little time he’d spent in his apartment, Carlos had been asleep. So yes, a new neighbor moving in without him noticing was actually quite possible.
That didn’t explain the sniffles though which by now had turned into sobs that hardly sounded muffled. And why would they? His neighbor probably didn’t realize just how thin these walls were. Carlos certainly hadn’t suspected it when he first moved in – but quickly found out the hard way. His neighbor until a few months ago certainly had a thing for loud women…
Contemplating what to do, Carlos tried to focus back on his book. It wasn’t his business why his new neighbor was sobbing so loudly. Or bawling his eyes out by the sound of it. Damn…
Putting the book back down, Carlos closed his eyes for a moment. Two parts of himself were at war right now. The polite side, reminding him that it was not his place, that it would probably be embarrassing for the man to find out that Carlos could hear him; that it wasn’t nice to snoop in other people’s privacy. And then there was his protector side, wanting to make sure the man was okay. It didn’t sound like he was in direct danger or crying because he had hurt himself. But the tears still sounded so full of pain.
In the end, it was his compassionate side that won out, and putting the book aside he turned further in bed and moved closer to the wall. Clearing his throat, he spoke just above his normal volume.

Toshinori doesn't ask much more. He can see clearly how exhausted his tiny guest is--and, after a closer look, he's also likely still in pain, if his slightly pinched expression is anything to go by.
Toshinori knows that look well. That is the look of someone who knows how to hide their hurting. The only reason he had picked up on it at all is because he makes that expression so often. Almost every day now, and his scar the usual culprit, prickling with ache if he stretches his left side just a little bit too far. (Or if it's about to rain.)
He makes that face every day for the people he saves, for the heroes he works with, for the media clamoring for his attention. Toshinori knows how it feels. The pain. Ever present.
That look. That look is not a look that belongs on a child’s face, and yet here he is, trying to figure out how much ibuprofen one gives to a ten-year-old boy the size of one of his fingers (if that, even--his fingers are very long).
“Why were you standing on that leg?” he chides gently. “It's broken. Standing on it will only make it worse--and it must've hurt like blazes besides.”
Little Midoriya hesitates and looks down, faltering.
“Because--because I didn't want to seem weak. I didn't want you to think getting hurt would make me--make me...seem...vulnerable. You know?
I didn't know you were nice.” He looks up pleadingly, silently begging Toshinori to understand.
He does. Even if the villain seems much stronger than you and you know you can't win, you make sure the villain doesn't know that too. You puff out your chest and toss back your head and smile (that smile! That lying smile!) and proclaim to the villain and the bystanders and the whole damn world that you are here. That you will remain here, that you will not die.
(Because if you say it enough times, you might just begin to believe that you can cheat death over and over for the sake of...of...everything. Everyone.)
Toshinori takes a deep breath and wipes his thoughts from his mind.
“And...and I'm...used to it anyway. I could have--handled it,” Midoriya continues, oblivious to the clanging thoughts in his host’s head. Toshinori latches on to the boy’s words, grateful for a distraction but distressed at the meaning of them.
“Used to it? How do you mean? Are you used to broken bones?” Toshinori says worriedly from the counter, trying to finagle the knife to cut a small sliver of a painkiller pill without cutting his freaking fingers off.
“Not broken bones, exactly, just...hurting. In general.”
Toshinori stiffens, the knife coming to rest on the cutting board.
Midoriya takes it upon himself to explain hastily. “It's not--I'm not, like--I don't get hurt very often or anything, I just...uhh…”
He lapses into silence for a moment, then perks up.
“You remember your old couch?”
Toshinori feels like he's got the mental equivalent of fucking whiplash. “My--my what?”
Midoriya waves his hands impatiently, like he's trying to shape the air into a couch. “You know! The old brown one? With the springs?”
Oh, gods. That couch.
The Fucking Couch was probably thirty years old by the time Toshinori got rid of it. He's had it since he graduated and for some unholy reason insisted on lugging the thing with him whenever he moved. It was cracked leather and ugly when it was new. Pretty comfortable at first, but with time the springs poked through the leather and jabbed him whenever he tried to sit down. Eventually he got rid of it and felt his whole house give a little sigh when he did, like it was relieved.
“I'm--uh--yes? That couch sucked,” he added making a face. Midoriya giggled, then sobered.
“A month before you got rid of it, I was Borrowing. I took a shortcut across the couch, but it was dark and my flashlight burned out and--” he glances up at Toshinori.
“I got cut,” he finishes lamely, in a small voice. “By a spring. The end was sharp.” And so saying this he shifts the shoulder of the part of his shirt that's not covering the raccoon scars and displays a small, pale scar. Not much to look at, except…
Gods. Oh, gods. Those are stitch marks. He was all alone--did he have painkillers--did he have to sterilize it and stitch it himself--
“I had some ibuprofen that I Borrowed from the medicine cabinet,” the tiny boy says softly. “It hurt, but not...not that bad.”
Oh. Oh, my boy…
Toshinori's heart aches. He turns and brusquely slices off a corner of the pill, deftly catching the bigger half before it skitters off the counter.
“So long as I am here, that won't happen again,” he says, making his tone gentle, as Little Midoriya is still wary of him. “I don't know how much of this you should take,” he adds doubtfully, eyeing the sliver of ibuprofen. Midoriya looks at it carefully, then takes it from Toshinori's outstretched finger and snaps it in half, then snaps one piece into smaller pieces and swallows them dry. “I did some math for medicine since the couch thing,” he explains. “‘Cuz I didn't take enough ibuprofen because I didn't wanna poison myself.”
Toshinori watches, nodding, then takes the other half. “You should sleep now, my boy,” he says, putting the half on the counter for later. “You're exhausted. Did you eat enough?”
Midoriya shakes his head. “I'm still hungry, but I should take it slow. Can I...can I eat when I, uh, wake up?” he asks, suddenly shy. Toshinori nods and smiles. He's remarkably perceptive for a child his age, and smart too. The shyness is adorable in its own right, but Toshinori hopes he'll be comfortable around his host soon, even if he is a human “bean.”
Little Midoriya gets a dish towel to sleep in, with another tucked under his head for a pillow. Swaddled in the towels and dwarfed by them, he seems very small and depthlessly young, with just his sleepy greengage eyes and shaggy, curly mop of green hair poking over the edge of the “blanket.”
“I like your new couch,” Midoriya says sleepily. “It's bigger. And there's more space to hide things under there.”
Uh. “Does that mean there are. Things. Under my couch?” Toshinori asks carefully.
“Just some little things,” the boy assures him. “Notebook-making supplies, extra soap, non-perishables, water flask. For if I get stranded, or can't go back to my home.”
Toshinori almost asks him where his “home” is right then and there, but manages to hold back because the boy is so tired he can barely keep his eyes open anymore.
Ah well. Questions for later, I suppose. A part of him feels relief that the two parts of him that previously battled for dominance now seem to be in agreement again, silenced by the new arrival. And another part of him feels quietly excited for what's to come, the questions to be answered, the knowledge to be gained.
And deep down, a small, small part tells him that it's good that Midoriya and Toshinori found each other, because from the looks of things so far, it looks like they need each other.
It will be nice to have someone to look after, he thinks, running the tip of one finger very gently over the child's incredibly soft green hair.

One more teaser for this fic before posting starts next Sunday!! Also, let's go back to Slutty Sunday, shall we? Because, as TK confessed last Sunday... he met Santa before 😏
TK couldn’t help the satisfied smirk, which was almost wiped off his face when the guy suddenly leaned down and caught his lips in a bruising kiss. He was lifted up and pushed against the bathroom stall and well hello there. This mysterious stranger certainly had a thing for walls – or rather, pushing his conquests against walls and kissing them senseless – and TK was completely on board with that. Especially when he felt the guy’s hands open his jeans and pull him free. He hissed at the initial contact, his cock already hard and sensitive after being confined for so long.
“You really almost got off on blowing me, didn’t you?”
“Definitely,” TK confirmed, groaning when the guy moved his hand a bit faster.
He let out a noise of displeasure when the hand left but in the next moment, he heard the ripping of a condom package, felt those talented hands roll it over his dick, and after one last, bruising kiss, the stranger was on his knees, sucking TK’s soul out through his cock.
🎅🎅🎅
this is an open tag for everyone who wants to join 🥰
It took a little bit, but I think I'm finally back 🥰 thanks to everyone who voted on the poll last week, and a big thanks to @heartstringsduet, @carlos-in-glasses, @bonheur-cafe, and @ravens-words for this week's tag, I love you, my friends 😘 also, shout out to @detective-giggles because one line in here is an homage to one of her fics.
I did not expect the Chef/Firefighter AU - Friends with Benefits catching feelings to win, but here we are 😁
When TK’s voice comes from the door, Carlos immediately grabs a clean spoon to fill before turning towards him, holding it out.
“Perfect timing. Open your mouth.”
Instead of just following the order, TK raises one eyebrow, the grin around his lips already spelling trouble before he even starts teasing. “I thought you said no sex in the kitchen. But if you insist.”
Carlos simply rolls his eyes, lifting the spoon as he closes the space between them. Apparently, TK knows when not to push his luck, as he indeed opens his mouth, letting Carlos feed him. It takes a second, TK obviously taking in all the flavors, but then his eyes fall shut and the moan that leaves him would usually be enough for Carlos to reconsider the ‘no sex in the kitchen’-rule if it wasn’t for the fact that he’s eagerly awaiting TK’s judgment.
“Good?” he finally asks when TK swallows and still hasn’t opened his eyes or said anything.
“Are you kidding?” TK replies, finally looking back at him. “That’s the fucking best mashed potatoes I ever had – and I don’t even like those, usually.”
At that information, Carlos pulls a face as he returns to the mixing bowl. “Seriously? Who doesn’t like mashed potatoes?”
“Uhm, someone with a childhood trauma?”
Looking back over his shoulder with a skeptical raised eyebrow, Carlos sees that TK has followed him. And not only that, he’s already reaching for a clean spoon (Carlos might’ve once literally hit him on the fingers with a wooden spoon when TK had tried to get a second scoop with his used spoon, so now he certainly knew better) as he steps next to Carlos.
“But this here might just cure me from my trauma,” TK muses, getting an extra big scoop out of the bowl.
His moan is no less sinful as it was before and Carlos’ jeans definitely tighten at the sound of it. He’s intimately familiar with this moan and he plans on hearing some more of it tonight. First though, he has to feed the guy.
Chuckling, he plucks the spoon from TK’s hand, ignoring his protest and pushing him towards the little table in the corner.
“Go, sit down. I’ll put you a little bit of everything on the plate.”
@cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut, what a wonderful idea:
With AO3 temporarily down, lots of us are sad at not being able to read when we wanted to! With that in mind, I’m taking the opportunity to invite you guys to share a little something from a WIP to keep us going through the downtime! Preferably something we haven’t shared before, but whatever works for you!
Thanks for tagging me, @detective-giggles, @heartstringsduet, @wtfuckevenknows, and @bonheur-cafe 🥰
Seeing how ao3 is still down, I'll just continue with this game, and since I can't share the Rev Bang fics I've been working on lately, you'll get some more from the "hand over mouth"-smut fic 😏 this time with the truly smutty part - I'll put it under the cut since it's explicit.
Sliding back into TK was another kind of coming home.
One that had him press his lips against TK’s neck so he wouldn’t scream out loud; one that had him snake his hand around and cover TK’s mouth to keep him from waking the entire station as well. He gave them both a moment to adjust before he fully let loose on all his desire that had built up over three months, four days, thirteen hours – give or take a few minutes.
During all that time, Carlos had often wondered how their reunion would be. Given the way they had been with each other for a long while now, he often envisioned gentle love-making, gazing into each other’s eyes, their harmonic silence interrupted only by their moans and sweet nothings whispered between them.
Except for the silence, it was anything but.
It was fast and dirty and hard, the way they had been in their early days; the way they still often liked it now, true, but it still surprised Carlos how greedy they both were for it now.
He had to keep his hand over TK’s mouth the entire time, able to hear his husband moan and groan and even whimper into it. There was never a chance that TK would’ve been able to stay quiet, not without Carlos’ help.
Carlos fared only slightly better, pressing his face back into TK’s neck whenever it became too much. The rest of the time he peppered TK’s shoulders, neck, and back with gentle bites and kisses; he murmured into his ear the most filthiest things he’d thought of whenever he’d been lonely in that motel room and had needed a way to find release; nibbled on his earlobe and sucked hickeys into his neck, claiming his husband back, letting him whine with pleasure all he wanted – his hand caught every sound.

Got a little more writing done, cleaned up a whole scene in the Tarlos Whump fic, and started another - and since TK Whump got the second most votes on my poll, have a few sentences from that scene 🥰
Thanks for tagging me, @heartstringsduet, @catanisspicy, @chaotictarlos, @detective-giggles, and @carlos-in-glasses 😘
Nancy tries so hard to control the jiggling of her leg, tries to stop herself from worrying her lip bloody, but it seems she just can’t. Every time she tries, she hears the sound again. The sound of delicate bones breaking, followed by an agonized yelp. She’s heard all types of cries over the years – hazard of the job, of course – but she’s sure she’ll hear this one in her nightmares for the rest of her life.
“Nance.”
Her head snaps up, looking over at her partner who… is actually smiling at her.
“Nancy, if you don’t stop biting your lip, you’ll bleed any second now. And your leg-jiggling is kinda hellaciously annoying.”
He says it with the sweetest smile and a hint of teasing – but even if he’d been an ass about it, Nancy would’ve still stopped and apologized.
“Sorry,” she murmurs, sitting up straighter.
His hand is suddenly in hers and for a second, she flinches. Until she realizes that it’s his good hand and then she grabs onto it, holding it like a lifeline as she looks back up at him, tears finally welling up in her eyes.
“I’m so sorry.”
They both know she’s no longer apologizing for her nervous ticks. And still, TK’s smile doesn’t slip. If possible, it grows even softer.
“You have nothing to apologize for.”
“But I–”
“It was an accident.”
“That got you into the hospital.”
Hi Noxy! For the wip game I’d like to know about the balcony meet cute, and if that one’s already been asked about how about late night snacks? 💛
Hi Lemon 💛💛💛 you're in luck, no one asked about either of these just yet 😊 they're both little one shots that I hope to wrap and clean up soon-ish.
Balcony meet cute
So this came to me the other day and miraculously, I just wrote it down in one go. It's Tarlos meeting as neighbors when TK first gets to Austin and is apartment hunting... and this is how that first meeting goes 😂
On his right though, there’s another balcony – which truthfully, is more of a little paradise. TK’s eyes go wide as he takes in the abundance of greenery, different flowers, even some tiny shrubs, but mostly herbs. There are so many herbs, it’s no wonder the air is filled with this wonderful aroma.
TK steps closer, trying to figure out a particular flower – only to stop dead in his tracks as he’s suddenly met with…
An ass in the air.
TK has no concept of time or reality anymore as he stares at what is very possibly the roundest, most glorious butt he has ever seen. And it’s covered with nothing more than tight boxer briefs. TK’s mouth is dry before he’s almost drooling, he’s speechless though he’s barely able to suppress a moan.
And then the ass moves. Well, the guy this ass belongs to moves – but it’s just to change positions and this one is certainly no less compromising. Some faraway part of his brain tells TK that the guy is doing Yoga and that he shouldn’t be staring. But somehow, there isn’t enough blood left in his upstairs brain to deliver that message. So all he does is stare.
I mean... I guess no one can fault TK for that reaction, right? 😇
cooking a late night snack together
So this really is just a short drabble, hardly longer than the snippet I'm going to share with you. It was born thanks to @detective-giggles, who I often just poke and go "gimme a prompt? I need to fill my daily word count quote" 😅 and then she does and I write the first thing that comes to mind. It's a great concept for getting in some words... I just don't know yet what to do with all those drabbles I have lying around 😂 but oh well, at least we get a cute little scene out of it:
"Are we having a late night snack again? No dinner then?"
TK gives his husband his best puppy dog eyes, hugging the man close the second he's within reach. "I'm sorry. I fell asleep on the couch right after my shift. Only woke up a few minutes ago."
Carlos kisses him on the nose and pulls him even closer.
"Babe, what did we say about skipping dinner?"
"I didn't skip it," TK insists. "I was just waiting for you."
Given the way Carlos rolls his eyes, TK knows he's not convinced, but since his husband steps next to him to prepare another sandwich, TK takes it as a win.

Summary:
The moment he spots him, he freezes. For just a tiny second, he wonders if all his thoughts of Carlos have summoned him.
And then he takes in the man as a whole, attire and all – and his mind goes blank.
Because Carlos is wearing a jersey as well.
And it’s blue.
Carlos is wearing the blue jersey… of APD.
~*~
Meet cutes are only meant for rom coms, right? So why is it that TK has a total of four of them with the same stranger in just one day? Besides, Valentine’s weekend is certainly not the right time for him to have his head in cloud nine – not when the annual Baseball game between Fire and Police is on the line. Apparently, Police hasn't lost in years thanks to their pitcher. But now Fire has TK on their team – a paramedic who had a chance to play in the major leagues...

Sneak peek under the cut:
“TK, can you tone down that grin a little bit?”
“Why?” TK asks, his grin turning cheeky instead. “Isn’t this supposed to be a fun day anyway?”
“Ah, hell na?” he hears Judd as he comes up right next to them. “This ain’t no fun. This is serious business.”
“Besides,” Paul throws in, baseball bat across his shoulders as if he’s stretching his arms. “We all know that grin isn’t because of the game ahead of us. It’s about that mystery man you disappeared with last night. Don’t deny it.”
“Not denying it at all,” TK replies, smile stretching even wider. “So I had a great night – wasn’t that exactly why you took me out?”
“Yeah, we just didn’t expect it to go that well,” Marjan says, pointing at what he guesses is his sunny smile.
Even though Marjan’s not on the team, she’s still dressed in the red-and-black combo of the fire department and sitting on the bench with them. She’s their unofficial social media expert, meaning she’ll film the game and then put some great highlights of it online later. Hopefully she’ll be able to post about a win for Fire.
According to Judd – and the rest of the team – they really need this win because their losing streak is a disgrace to their department. TK didn’t pay it much mind before but now that he’s seeing the stands fill with a large crowd, he starts to understand that it’s not just about Police versus Fire. It’s about community. He was skeptical when Judd said the annual match between Fire and Police is a highlight in Travis County, rallying crowds of hundreds, but now he’s a witness. Hell, there’s even a news van and people with homemade signs. Fire definitely needs to bring home the trophy this year.
“Yes, TK,” Nancy thankfully pulls TK out of his thoughts before he can overthink this. He’ll simply play his best game, no need to worry. “Tell us how it went? We didn’t see much of the guy but from what we saw, he was hot as fuck.”
“Oh, he definitely is,” TK agrees, his smile instantly back and all the worries in the world gone.
“Anyone else worried we’ll have to see that grin for a whole while longer?” Paul asks the group, who all agree.
TK rolls his eyes. “So what, I met a dude that might just be the absolute jackpot. Aren’t you happy for me?”
“TK,” Judd starts in his slow southern drawl, one of his big hands landing on his shoulder. “From what I hear, you just met the guy and what? Had one good night with him? You’re running around like you’re on cloud nine. Brother, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for you, I just think you should be careful too. Do we need to check him out?”
While TK’s truly touched by Judd’s genuine desire to protect him, he still gives him an impish grin. “Well, for one, how long did it take you to know that Grace might be the one and definitely worth chasing?”
“Ahh, but I knew her from months on the phone.”
TK gives him a mock-shocked look. “So you’re saying, if you had just met her at the honky tonk without your history, you wouldn’t have thought her worth your time?”
Judd looks almost comically shocked and pained before he lifts his hands in surrender and quickly amends, “Touché.”
“And besides,” TK starts, finally feeling ready to drop the bomb. “Last night wasn’t the first I saw of him…”

Written for the @tarlosweeklyprompts Valentine's Fic Exchange and my giftee @sugdenlovesdingle.
The prompt was: TK and Carlos meeting via the police vs fire baseball game when they’re on opposing teams (bonus points for a grey’s anatomy-like thing where they hook up the night before without knowing who the other is and then seeing them at the game).
The biggest, biggest thanks goes out to the amazing @lightningboltreader and @bonheur-cafe. These two spent the past few weeks explaining an American game that seems to have no rules to a European who had zero knowledge about it - and they did it in a way that said European was able to write a fic about it. I bow to you two! They also helped plot out every step of the game - Char, Dalawa, this fic truly wouldn't exist without your help, and for once, that's not just a phrase 😂
