She reaches out and pats his shoulder comfortingly. "It's okay, Wade. We'll find you somebody else."

Wade doesn't say what he's thinking, which is that he would rather spend the rest of his life alone than ever place his heart in someone else's hands again. He gave it to Peter. It belongs there now, permanent as a scar. Even knowing they'll never get back together, he's at peace with it. His heart is beating faintly somewhere in Peter's cramped Queens apartment, shoved to the back of a drawer between old receipts and takeout menus. Maybe even rediscovered during some half-hearted attempt at spring cleaning, held up to the light for a moment before being tucked away again.
