Bus picked us up at 5:30am, which was pretty brutal. Made better by McDonald’s pancakes though. Flight to Cusco - amazing runway through the mountains in the middle of the city. I had my own room again, which was exciting. The rest of the group arrived at 2pm, so Dorothy and I went for coffee and cake in a cafe where I bought a great water colour for £8. So far the only symptom of altitude sickness was being hungry! We went on an orientation walk on which we saw a wall built by the Incas - they didn’t have metal tools so cutting the stones must have taken forever. The things you can achieve when you have slaves! Felt pretty nauseous in the afternoon, so only had a light soup for dinner overlooking the square. When we got back to our hotel, we discovered a big group of people on the sofas right outside our room playing drinking games. They invited us to join, and obviously we weren’t going to be able to go to bed with them outside so we thought “why not?” (although I was drinking water as did not want to exacerbate the nausea). The group had just finished the Inca Trek and made me feel 110% sure in my decision not to do it (whereas before I was about 97% sure, as I think I have made my feelings about trekking clear). We ended up going out with them to a salsa bar, which thankfully changed to reggaeton and cheesy pop music at 11pm. The group were all super drunk and a few ended up dancing on the bar. Such a random addition to the night, but so fun!
