This little gem arrived in my Birchbox way back in May. Somehow Cailyn Cosmetics has managed to hit all my pseudoscience pet peeve buttons with IT Foaming O^2 Scrub. It’s really all in the name. First of all, I’m not sure what O^2 is supposed to be. They refer to Oxygen in the product description, but someone should have informed them that it’s called a subscript. “Sub-” as in subterranean or subway; you know, underneath.
Also, there are no signs of peroxides on the ingredient list, soooo….. I just don’t know where they claim the Oxygen is coming from. It’s just a lot of plastics and preservatives, and honestly that’s exactly how the product feels.
Aside from my numerous complaints about the name, the product isn’t really my up of tea, and I would never purchase it on my own. It feels like scrubbing your skin with thousands of plastic micro-beads. It was far to abrasive for my taste. The product does smell somewhat citrusy, but in an artificial chemical way à la D-Limeone:
PEG-8, PEG-75, Sucrose, Glycerin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia Extract, Dimethicone, Polysorbate 20, Parfum, Tocopheryl Acetate, Phenoxyethanol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, DMDM Hydantoin, D-Limonene, Yellow 10
Polymer Decoding: PEG = Polyethylene Glycol, a water soluble polymer common in beauty and baby products, and Dimethicone = Polydimethylsiloxane (also known as PDMS or Silicone), a crosslink-able polymer that makes for a great stain resistant spatula!
