He hides them to the best of his ability because he doesn’t want people to ask him about them and suspect what sort of life he must have led in Italy. However, the sort of clothing that he has to wear as Lord cover up most of his skin which makes his life easier. He needs to wear doublets, and layers and long sleeved shirts to match, and pretty much the only part of his body that’s exposed are his hands and his face, so when he’s meeting with Lords and Ladies they don’t notice them. If they happen to notice the few he has on his hands they rarely ask where they’re from, and if someone does he can easily tell them it’s from when he was a boy playing in the vineyards or from when he was doing something stupid and got a small cut on his hand. The ones of his temples are covered with his hair and again if anyone asks he can easily hide the truth with a lie and say he bumped his head as a kid and got a little scar there.
When he’s working in the vineyards with his workers, it’s the same thing. Cuts on his hands could be from working the vineyard, and the rest is generally covered by clothing. He usually gets less people asking him in the vineyards because most come up with their own conclusions and it’s not something they feel the need to ask him about. It’s mostly the nobles who find them odd because he doesn’t have manual labor or military background to serve as an excuse with them like he does with the workers who think he’s a peasant just like the rest of them.
It gets harder to hide them when he’s sleeping with someone obviously because everything’s exposed, and the darkness might help, along with the fact that they’re really tiny and pale scars that blend in with his natural skin tone for the most part, and also that they’re probably too drunk to notice or really care enough to ask him. If by some chance they do though, he knows how to change the subject quickly or distract them with something else and they know not to ask him again.
He does think about them a lot even if others don’t notice them though because he knows that they’re the biggest evidence of what he went through and it causes him a shit ton of anxiety because even if they don’t ask or don’t ask twice, he never knows what people are really thinking, if people are judging him or if they’re suspecting something and that drives him insane with paranoia. When he’s alone he doesn’t worry about that as much, but he still sees them and notices them because no matter how long they’ve been there, it’s not something he can just grow used to.They’re constant reminders of a part of his life that he’d otherwise like to forget, so yeah they’re on his mind a lot whether he’s alone or with someone else, but he’s learned how to play it off like they’re nothing.
