SHADOW AND BONE. @ghilannainguidemeâ
âAnd what if I was born to be neither? What if Iâm supposed to be a nug or something?â He hated this, he hated not knowing exactly who or what he was supposed to be. âI guess I get what you mean, but think about itâŚI wasnât born to do this; I wasnât born to be a King. Iâm supposed to be here, beside you and fighting against the Darkspawn. Iâll only ask you once please donât choose that for me. Choose to let me stay, choose to let me continue doing what I love and what I love is being here with you.â
There was something in the tone of his voice that ached like an old broken bone. Not for the first time, she raged privately at what Arl Eamon had put on Alistairâs shoulders, at Teyrn Loghain for setting all of this in motion, at Duncan for pulling her into this shemlen mess rather than--
âI didnât mean that,â she said, her voice firm but very quiet. She turned onto her side to face him, letting her hand rest on his shoulder and stroking it softly. The bed was warm and plush, and Eamonâs estate at least afforded them privacy, but at the same time, this place reminded her that she was an outsider--an interloper. That her life and the one that Eamon intended for Alistair could hardly be more different.Â
âI want you to stay. Do you know that? Whatever time I have, I want it to be with you.â
She didnât give him time to dwell on that. âIf anything, Iâd say you ought to be a mabari. Loyal, strong...â she tried, really tried, to suppress a girlish smile, but there was no help for it. She half-hid her face against his neck. âHandsome.â
