[*trips over own feet* *drops this* whoops.] "No, no, no, don't die on me!"
Clint smiled, panting for breath as he lay atop the roof, hydra goons and Gotham’s underworld scum laid about around him. Honestly, he’d known this was coming. Maybe not here, and maybe not like this, but he’d always known, deep down. People like him didn’t get nice, quiet deaths. They got violent, and bloody. The pipe through his chest pinned him to the rooftop, keeping him from moving around much. Probably was a good thing. He’d die no matter what, but at least this way he had time to say good bye. “S’not…S’not your fault, kay?” Grinning up at Dick, his teeth painted red by his own blood, that probably wasn’t the best thing to say. But damn, the boy needed to know. And god, he was so young, they were all so damn young. Adults in the eyes of the law, but still children. “Keep…K’ep be’n ‘hero.” He felt his eyes start to flutter shut, sounds starting to fade even more. His world started to grey out at the edges, slowly eating up his vision. “M’proud’a ya.” He breathed, dredging up the strength to pass along that last message, before everything went dark.

Wallace sighed, tugging the hem of his red and gold doublet. He couldn’t believe he had to do this. He had already danced with what he imagined were hundreds of girls. If his father hadn’t been on his deathbed, Wally would not be holding a ball to find his bride. The king being near death had put all of his family’s advisers on edge, and his father insisted he find a bride. The royal family put on an elegant ball, and invited the entire kingdom. His father expected him to dance with each girl and try to find the perfect princess. He knew he’d never find one. All of the girls at this dance were the same. None of them could hold a conversation with him that wasn’t about him being prince. They all sucked up to him, and none of them felt right. He thanked the latest girl for the dance and retreated back to the front of the room. He waited as his father spoke to someone of nobility and nodded when their conversation finished. “Father, I don’t see how this is going to-”He froze. “I mean... Nevermind.” He headed to the door, and towards the boy in the blue and black doublet that had just entered. He felt entranced. He had never seen anyone so... beautiful. As he approached the boy, he bowed, and tilted his head up to look at the boy, grinning. “I do not believe I have seen you before?” He asked.

“Now, darling, you know your father is getting up there in years.”
“Father, she’s calling you old again.”
Riley turned the page in her book, a novel assigned by her tutor, though the man had become more of a mentor than a schoolmaster now that she was grown. It was dull but served as an excellent distraction from her mother.
“Sweetheart, please. I’m serious. You will be queen, and it’s not that I don’t think you’re capable.”
Well, that... she closed the book with a definitive slam and set it aside. “Then why do you want me to get married so soon if it’s not because I can’t handle the duties I’ve been training to take on since I was born?” This was no new argument, and the script rarely changed.
“I want you to be happy, and you know as well as I do that political marriages are necessary.”
And there was the point that Riley could never argue with. It was true, and she had long since accepted it. Besides, her parents loved each other and theirs had been one for political advantage, and the kingdom did benefit from both of their influences. She sighed.
“What did you have in mind, Mother?”
The queen smiled and cupped her daughter’s face in her hands. “A masquerade. The invitations will go out to good families, noble and not, and all eligible people will be in attendance.”
“And the masks?”
“So they will have to rely on their wit and brains to have a chance with you. They won’t be able to use their pretty faces.”
Riley smiled faintly. “Well, I should find something to wear, shouldn’t I?”
It was not ideal, the concept of finding a spouse at a masked ball where dancing would be the order of the night, not conversation. Yet it was tradition, and if tradition meant an enchanting ball, then she could do as she needed to.
Still, it would have been nice to fall in love, like a milk maid or a farmer’s daughter could. Such was the price a ruler needed to pay, and if a marriage meant advantages for her people, then it was a price she could pay.
*Kisses* You have the kissing disease. Pass it along to the first 10 people on your dash, if you want.
“Did you just kiss me, Jason?”
"Look at me. Just look at me and stay awake. Can you do that?"
“M’wake, ya asshole.” Clint muttered, glowering up at Dick from where he was propped against a wall. “No’n in ‘is ‘old city pl’ys fa’r.” He slurred, eyes drooping shut for a moment again. Barney, leaving that night. Trickshot and Barney beating him half to death. Mom dying. The car wreck. Killing–His eyes snapped open again, heart being a mile a minute. “Rea’ly hate fu’zn’ S’ar’ C’ow.”
