You know I'm not a fan of self-diagnosis, but those weren't self diagnosis. That was medical systems ignoring people trying to tell them something was wrong, which is abhorrent. They didn't try to say they had lupus (heh), just that they needed help.
But see, the two things are related
People often turn to self-diagnosis because the medical system has failed them.
I knew I had arthritis on my knees long before I got a diagnosis. I had to fight and argue to get to see a specialist to get a diagnosis. Because I was ‘young and healthy’ and my knee pain would probably go away if I “just lost some weight”.
Then I finally saw the specialist who was like, “Oh yes, you have pre-arthritic decay in your knees that will likely be full-blown arthritis by the time you’re 20. Also, lose some weight.”
So I can’t be anti-self diagnosis, because I’ve been there.
Sometime you diagnose yourself, and then that gives you some ammo to throw at the doctors to at least get the tests to see if you’re right.
I assume you watch too much television.
