hi, I’m also ftm and my chosen name is also Icarus! i was wondering how you landed on your name. i got mine from being an impulsive little shit in DnD
Omg hi!!!
Coming to the conclusion that Icarus was my name was just as slow burn and convoluted and then all-at-once, as finding out I was trans (at like, 22).
It started with songs and stories. Music is very influential to me, and when a couple different Icarus songs made their way onto my playlist, and I saw myself in the lyrics, the name started to stick. As a writer, I started to use Icarus as a placeholder name, especially for sonas.
Then, it was using Icarus as video game usernames. Monster hunter, sdv, whatever. I just liked it.
When my egg finally cracked, I was faced with the realization I needed a new name. Icarus was the first thing that came to mind, so I went with it. And it's just felt right ever since.
Most of my friends have told me I have strong ambitions. And I find that I tend to throw myself as high as I can in most aspects of my life. I've even been burned and fell flat on my ass, only to pick up the pieces and do it again. I didn't really make that correlation until after I'd chosen the name, but I find that it fits me comfortably. It also helps that I'm in love with the most sunshine-y, bright man on the planet ☀️💛
Anyway! I get a lot of flak for it sometimes aha. My favourite comment was my uncle: "isn't that the guy who died?"
But I like to have fun with it. I introduce myself as "Icarus. You know, like the guy who fell?" and it gets a laugh every now and again. You're free to steal that- from one Icarus to another :)
One tip: if you hate the nickname "Ic" or "Icky", I've shortened mine to "Rus" in my friend group. I like how mechanic-y and boyish it feels. You're also free to steal that, if you'd like.
Woah this got long and convoluted. I really like my name, so I suppose the flood gates were bound to open when asked about it.
