I've been really lucky up until today. Although I've ben misgendered on the phone a few times, I had never been misgendered in person, when presenting as myself. And then I got a toothe ache and had to go to see my dentist.

I had dealt with changing my name with them a few months ago, but this was my first time to go in.

The staff was nice as could be, and the dentist was polite, but . . . He repeatedly called me sir, and when he spoke to the staff, referred to me as he. Repeatedly.

Now, he could have just been clueless, but he needed to refer me to a specialist, and when he called that office to see how soon they could see me, he gave my correct name to the person on the other end, and referred to me as she.

So, he knew good and well what was appropriate, and was making a conscious choice to misgender me every other time.

In just about any other situation, I would have said something, but this is a person sticking sharp pieces of metal in my mouth, so I wasn't willing to antagonize him. instead, I won't be going back to that dentist. I've told my wife that I won't be taking our kids there again, either, but that whether or not she does is up to her.

At some point, I will contact the office and explain why I am no longer their patient.

Oh I know, but I saw sensitive topic blogs getting death by deletion bot glitch, regardless of what their blog’s actual content was. Because my blog is marked explicit, I became worried that I would be affected. I saw people emailing tumblr support and getting their blogs back, but I worried about going through the hassle and whether or not it would actually work.
