I think for me the big thing with Beomseok and how his relationship with Suho deteriorated is obviously Beomseok is I think Suho has more responsibility for his spiraling than the fandom wants to see/admit (ofc Beomseok is still responsible for his own actions but).
I mean don’t get me wrong I love Suho, but honestly he was much more of a friend to Sieun than he ever was to Beomseok. The part that really gets me is when Beomseok admits to having been viciously bullied, and the first thing out of Suhos mouth is essentially “what did you to do deserve it”.
Which is an insane thing for him to ask and I think really reflects that he lives in such a black and white world (I think part of the reason he has continuous issues connecting with/understanding Beomseok). Beomseok reveals a very traumatic experience, and is immediately blamed by a friend he looks up to. When Sieun counteracts Suho and tells Beomseok he never did anything to deserve the abuse, you can see Beomseok almost break. He’s a broken boy craving understanding and care, and while Sieun sees and understands this (as shown in his gentle handling and constant verbal concern for Beomseok throughout the show).
Suho either can’t see or doesn’t comprehend that he’s struggling. Suho grabbed Beomseok and started pulling him along into the friendship, but he didn’t really have any patience when Beomseok tripped. Of course Beomseok made his own wrong decisions and it’s not that Suho is at all a bad person. But I think his inability to understand or empathize with Beomseok was the proverbial nail in the coffin.
I think things could still have been turned around after ep 5 if Suho hadn’t immediately written his friend off as a lost cause and further ostracized him, even getting physical with his supposed friend that he knew had trauma from bullying. Again: Suho isn’t at all a bad person, but I also don’t think he was willing to make the effort to expand his worldview/understand Beomseok and that’s where things became irreversible.
TBH if it was just Sieun and Beomseok I think it would have turned out completely different. Beomseok let someone in, and then experienced what he perceived as a betrayal.
Ofc doesn’t excuse his final actions but….idk he’s just so tragic. I wanna cry every time I think abt him.
(also always wanna cry for Sieun bc he really did try to help Beomseok, but I think was too afraid of losing Suho to step out away from him and really pursue/help Beomseok - Ex: after Suho and Beomseok fight in the hall at karaoke he stays with Suho even though Beomseok definitely looked more vulnerable. So his friend he was so concerned for and wasn’t able to help puts his other friend in a come like- I’m sure he feels responsible/guilty in a thousand different ways).
