Chris Rock made a very valid point this past weekend in his opening speech. Why is it that we have categories for men and women in terms of acting, but we don’t for any of the “technical” awards?

Did you know that a women has NEVER been nominated? WTF is that about? Let’s look at it this way, Maryse Alberti is the cinematographer of Creed, Freeheld and The Visit all of which came out this year. You don’t see her bitching and complaining that only men got nominated for cinematographer even though she has every right to bitch about this. Is she though? Not that I can find online. She’s probably watching Mad Max and the Revenant thinking ‘I KNOW I am as good as these men I just need to be better.’

What about the Lady Gaga losing to Sam Smith? She’s certainly not thinking to herself ‘Now if it was for best female created song of the year I’d have one’ she’s thinking... well I’m not sure, but if I was her I’d be thinking ‘Poor Sam just put his foot in his mouth.’

Maybe Alberti should be saying “Emmanuel Lubezki slow the fuck down so I can catch up!” Not that she will or that it’s she should feel she has to. Women in the industry are just as capable as men and where Chris Rock says Hollywood is “Sorority Racist” I believe it’s worse than that, if it was “Sorority Racist” women would always be nominated! No, no Hollywood for filmmakers is “Fraternity Racist”

So instead of #oscarsowhite why don’t we have #oscarsomale? Technical categories shouldn’t only have females in the editing, wardrobe, hair and makeup categories. Take the hint from the crew of Mad Max most of the technicals were won by women, why? Maybe because Miller knew what would make his film standout. Note his wife won for editing Mad Max and she doesn’t even edit action films!
