Throwback to my favorite part of this routine ❤️
Regular life stuff: I’m learning ASL to help with verbal shutdowns and just a general spoon-saving strategy when I don’t feel like talking (or the environment is too loud/distracting/etc) and it RULES.
Highly recommend for any autistic folks who have others in their life that know or want to learn sign language with them, it’s been so helpful. And there’s some really awesome teachers out there that help with fingerspelling and slang words and stuff like that that I’ve found. I’m taking free classes at a local art museum once a month and practicing in between and it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be!
It’s actually been super intuitive for me. I think it has to do with my brain being wired for movement as communication, so it’s been way more approachable than other AAC for me, personally. I am still better with expressive sign than receptive, so I’m glad to have some online tools to keep practicing watching and interpreting sign.
I am, however, interestingly “dyslexic” with some fingerspelling letters, lol.
