Okay, I’m mad and I feel like people need to know about this, because our political process lacks transparency. Today I was a delegate to the Boulder County assembly and convention of the Democratic party. For those of you unfamiliar, Colorado has a caucus system in which delegates are apportioned first by precinct, then by county, and finally at the state level to the national assembly. This sometimes works well. Today, it was chaos. Because of a combination of misunderstanding and amateur politicians pursuing their own interests at the expense of order (to the extent of completely disregarding the Chair of the proceedings) it took us two hours to even approve an agenda. Continued inflammatory rhetoric and uncivilized behavior resulted in us being three hours behind when we finally reached the presidential preference poll. In this time, I was aggressively and repeatedly misgendered, the Chair was ignored and many people spoke over her, and I watched a man fall to the floor and hit his head when another delegate pushed him. What does this mean? Well, due to frustration, several panic attacks, and fear for my safety, I left early. I don’t know all the results. But I do know that if this behavior continues, and if conventions, assemblies, or primaries are conducted improperly or incompletely, Democrats will not only not be elected-- they will not even be included on ballots. Revolution is a worthy goal. But right now, we need to work within the system to make that ideal possible. To elect candidates who stand for us and our interests. The head of the Bernie campaign called the Assembly today and told us all to chill out. He was ignored. Please, I am begging you, remain civilized and orderly. Right now, we need to move our candidates forward. Don’t make it impossible.
