"Wood Clearing," Northfield, Connecticut River, likely the early 1900s,

This photo came from a glass negative that is known as a half plate. There was some damage to the emulsion but it was a fairly easy fix, according to Cappucci. Look closely and you can see toys on the ground. There is a whetstone to the right of the door. The man was likely sharpening the axe he is holding.
