As a writer and artist Rick has been able to capture the way people feel if they have been abused, betrayed, exploited, disrespected or manipulated. The song does not promote violence. What it does do in my opinion is cause us to think about our personal well being. It may be even cause you to want to be more selfish with your personal & professional space. One of the beautiful things about being an artistic is creative expression. An artist should be able to capture what is happening in society. Jamaican Dancehall / reggae artists do it RAW & UNCUT and earn millions. There will always be those who can appreciate your music and those who oppose it. Why do we always try to put Bajan artists under so much negative scrutiny? Why can't we just appreciate the music for what it is the same way we embrace genres from around the world? I LOVE THE SONG and for those who think it should be banned the reality it that this song has gone viral. 21st Century artists who are proactive do not depend on radio play. There are numerous platforms for artists to get their music out to the world. Music is art. It reflects life. Personally music will not make me smoke weed, rob, rape or kill anybody. I can't go in front of a judge and say the music made me do it. I would be sent straight to the psychiatric hospital for a mental evaluation. Rihanna said years ago that she was does not want to be any child's role model. We can argue that artists have a responsibility to promote positivity but they are also in the business of entertainment. It's for parents to instill values and morals in their children. It is for parents to tell their children "don't mind him or her that's the profession they chose so they will do shocking or questionable things." The question shouldn't be about what an artist sings or does. The question should be "HOW ARE YOU RAISING YOUR CHILDREN THAT ANYONE OR ANYTHING COULD INFLUENCE THEM MORE THAN YOU?" Parents, Community Groups, Schools, Churches, Political Figures, Artists all have a role to play in shaping society positively we can not dispute this. We have too many weak minded individuals who look for any excuse to do the wrong thing. We also have jealous / bad minded people who don't like to see other succeed. We also have many intelligent and powerful people who like to manipulate others and abuse their power. You must be strong minded. Meditate. Reflect. I know I'm not taking any RH aka NONSENSE from anybody but that does not mean I will be disrespectful, insensitive or unprofessional. I am able to speak up for my rights. I am able to disengage and walk away situations or people who cause me stress or unhappiness. A person can apologize 1000 times and hurt you the same way over and over. Who allows that hurt? YOU DO! Someone betrayed your trust and you are supposed to give them the opportunity to do it all over? Sorry NO! I don't believe in that. Being able to forgive a person and not want them in your life is not wrong and it does not mean you are weak. It means that you have put yourself first!! So if you have reached the stage of not giving a RH I hope that it came after much introspection and that it makes you a better and not bitter individual.
