Everybody has some kind of scar. || accepting
An emotional scar.
One of the biggest emotional scars that Poe has is with regards to Muran. Ever since Rapier Squadron lost him in the Yissira Zyde affair, they’ve never been the same; their fates were irrevocably altered. That fight proved to be the last straw Poe had with regards to the rampant behaviour of the First Order that the New Republic had somehow managed to turn a blind eye to. In the attempt to get justice for his friend, he willingly broke regulation to trace the Yissira Zyde’s trajectory.
If he was about to be arrested, if he was looking at a court-martial, he wasn’t going to try to run. He’d face the consequences of his actions, and he’d defend them as the right ones. ~ Before the Awakening
By all accounts, he’d broken a specific order from high up to not pursue the incident, and if they deemed it severe enough, there was a potential he might’ve been banned from flying. Poe was willing to risk it all for his friend, to risk flying - the one thing he saw himself pursuing his whole life. Enough to say that Muran’s death shook him to his core and left its indelible mark on him, and eventually led to him joining the Resistance.
Muran’s death was a tipping point. But it did not become an emotional hindrance, rather it gave him a certain sort of strength, to remember what and who he was fighting for – for the people, for peace, and for that pilot.
