I knew the moment I saw them that I had to draw Green with a modern style AAC device. I love them so much. 😭💚 (Based off the Blue and Green cafe break scene)

currently trying to do research write for a semi-speaking character of mine, but all google’s coming up with is stuff from autism moms and the like. i follow you so i thought it would be a good idea to ask:
how has usisng an aac device made life harder?
how has it made life easier?
what are your pet peeves when it comes to folks interacting with you?
what are some stereotypes that i should avoid?
is there any terminology i should avoid?
and what funky things would you like to see repped in media?
thanks!

(TW FOR ABLEISM)
1. Things it makes harder is that people don't see it as an extension of my body, they just see it as a tablet. So it is touched and grabbed without my permission a lot which feels very bad. Another thing is that it takes me longer to say things than it takes my peers, which is sort of frustrating.
2. I am able to communicate much better. I can say what I need to say much more clearly, and get my points across better. It also saves me lots of spoons, and prevents speech related meltdowns, shutdowns, panic attacks, etc.
3. People trying to guess what I'm saying before I'm done making my sentence.
4. We are not all cishet white boys who have basic ideas, opinions, and identities. We are complex, just as you are.
5. No functioning labels, and don't say "nonverbal".
6. I love fashion, I want to see an AAC user character with a cool fashion sense, or who likes body mods, and is just generally a unique character visually.
And finally, you didnt ask this, but, I also want to point out to please not make the character have a goal to become fully speaking. It's ableist and annoying.
