Ok, so Iām going to fully dive into #nonshepardocweek, because Iāve never done anything like this before and I really want to make this OC something real and believable, and not just a doodle on repeat.
What is the characterās full name, and how did you come up with it?
I found myself intrigued by the description of Invictus, and what sort woman Shastina might be in order to make the founding story possible. Before I knew what was happening, I was designing her character, and giving her an intricate backstory that is both the joy and bane of my existence.
What species are they, and what do they look like? (Use anything you like - descriptions, art, outfits, face claims, etc)
Sheās a turian, for starters, so human face claims donāt work too well here. But sheās been described as muscular (even for a turian), and formal (again, even for a turian). Her plates are deep maroon, and her markings are cream (though this changes several years down the road). If she were to have a human equivalent in terms of appearance and carriage, it would definitely be Claire Underwood. She is a practical but impeccable dresser, and wears clothing that matches her markings and golden eyes.
Tell us a little about the world-state that they inhabit. (For example, are they active before, during, and/or after the events of the Mass Effect trilogy? Are they part of an AU?)
Shastina begins her story on Palaven, in the homeworld capital of Cipritine, in 1958 CE (So, many years before first contact). But for the story I have planned, most of the important events occur on Invictus in the following years. Invictus is very much a āwild westā environment, and the presence of multiple species and government/gang interests makes life on the planet antagonizing. If I ever get around to actually writing it, the story would be canon to the trilogy. For some galactic perspective: Turians are working to expand, not only in terms of colonization, but also in proving their worth to the Council. Theyāve held a seat since about 900 CE, but with the geth revolt that occurred in the 1800s, the turians are especially cautious, as they are still the youngest council species. Political positions on the turian homeworld are highly stressful but highly desired, and Shastina comes from a lineage of political acrobats.

āTake a little, then a little more, until finally you have it all. Let them declare you king, even if it's only of a tree in Asia Minor. The rest will come to you.ā ā practically shouted spoken by the lovely Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra in the 1963 film Cleopatra (which by coincidence has been a great source of inspiration for this character)
*thank you to @rock-paperback-scissors for coming up with this awesome OC ask prompt, I definitely took it and ran off screaming with it!
Some days ago I saw a post about non-Shepard OC week and thought that it would be a good opportunity to try and develop one of my character designs into a character.
This guy is a young weapon engineer, who was assigned on a battle ship during the Reaper war. His unit got all killed, except for him. A quarian ship answered his disstess signal, and Iām still thinking about what should happen next. Mostly Iām interested in story about understanding each other and forming bonds.
What is the characterās full name, and how did you come up with it?
Ryessa TāMerris. Name generators and brainstorming with @lukael lol.
What inspired you to create this character?
Roleplay purposes and the fact that I wanted an Asari OC mostly, but she was later molded into my actual OT canon.
What species are they, and what do they look like? (Use anything you like - descriptions, art, outfits, face claims, etc)
She wears a lot of professional styles, and most if not all are in greyās or whites.
Tell us a little about the world-state that they inhabit. (For example, are they active before, during, and/or after the events of the Mass Effect trilogy? Are they part of an AU?)
Sheās mostly active before and during the events of 1. Itās not fully established yet, but she is not around to see the events of 2 and 3 as she enlists to be a part of the Andromeda Initiative not long after the death of Shepard.

I have a pinterest board for her aesthetic here
Itās kind of cliche, but I always liked the song āGirlfriendā by Icona Pop, because it really resonates with how she feels.

Rhea is a biotic turian who would never want to live in a shit hole like Omega if she did not have the misfortune of somehow winding up there with no memory save for how to fight and her first name. After five years sheās pretty much given up on getting her memory back and concerns herself mostly with staying alive and eeking out a humble life as an owner of a small cafe in Omegaās market district.Ā
Alvās only loves in life are wine, flying, and looking the best out of everyone in the room. Unlike most asari who donāt identify as any gender Alv identifies as male (by a mix of turian and human standards). He left his home on Illium as soon as he was able and has been hopping around the galaxy from one odd job to the next looking for adventure.Ā
For the Profile Reconstruction, Character creation 1-5 for Shepards parents? If you feel like? :)
Rose Shepard
What is the characterās full name, and how did you come up with it?
Rose Siobhan OāRiordan Shepard. I knew she was of Irish ancestry. She got her name because when I started AHOD,Ā I knew Grace Shepard was haunted by a scent. I knew the scent was reminiscent of her mother. My own love of fairy tales, and the sort of fairy-tale-feeling of Graceās visions/dreams/memories, made roses a natural choice. All of a sudden, I had this scene fully-fleshed in my head of Graceās father twirling his red-headed wife around their living room, singing āMy Wild Irish Roseā, and I knew it was because her name was Rose.
What inspired you to create this character?
Well, the short answer is that once I decided to actually include bits and pieces from Graceās childhood, I needed to actually flesh out her parents a bit more. Then I ended up giving Rose a bit of the Earthborn background, because why not? I like to borrow bits and pieces of lore like that.
What species are they, and what do they look like? (Use anything you like - descriptions, art, outfits, face claims, etc)
Human, from Earth. I think she looks a bit like Jane Levy, I think, though with green-grey eyes. Sheās very pretty, but tougher than she looks. Sheās got a scar down her back covered over with a rose-garden tattoo her husband did for her before he was her husband. She loves gardening; I think she wears sturdy clothing most of the time, but also loves beautiful dresses and color. Her wedding dress was yellow.
Tell us a little about the world-state that they inhabit. (For example, are they active before, during, and/or after the events of the Mass Effect trilogy? Are they part of an AU?)
She died on Mindoir, so sheās only part of Graceās very early life. Still, Grace thinks of her, so her effect is felt long after her death.

The aforementioned Wild Irish Rose. Sadly, though, itās this quote that always makes me think of her:
If you listen Iāll sing you a sweet little song
Of a flower thatās now droped and dead,
Yet dearer to me, yes than all of its mates,
Though each holds aloft its proud head.Ā
Gray Shepard
What is the characterās full name, and how did you come up with it?
Gray Edward Jonathan Shepard
What inspired you to create this character?
Like Rose, Shepard needed some parents. I knew I wanted him to be a mechanic-type; heās where Shepard got her first taste of the inherent beauty of taking things apart and putting them back together again, but better. When I decided to make Rose Earthbornish (as in, was in a gang) I decided Gray wasnāt so much her rescuer as the person who offered a hand when she needed it and then gave her a safe space to figure herself out. Also, heās the one who did her tattoos.Ā
What species are they, and what do they look like? (Use anything you like - descriptions, art, outfits, face claims, etc)
Human. He looks a bit like Sam Heughan, but with dark hair (always worn a bit long). Tall and lean, though muscled from doing so much physical labor. He has an artistās hands. There are always grease stains or paint on his clothes. Almost always smiling. A bit older than Rose (who was 21 when they got married).Ā
Tell us a little about the world-state that they inhabit. (For example, are they active before, during, and/or after the events of the Mass Effect trilogy? Are they part of an AU?)
Same thing: died on Mindoir. Before that, he was a mechanic, a tattoo artist, a painter, a dreamer, an explorer. It was he who was obsessed with the stars and wanted to be a part of the Mindoir colony. In some ways, heās even more present in older Graceās thoughts; I think she was a bit of a daddyās girl before she hit her teens and it wasnāt cool to be that anymore. (Grace is named after him on Roseās insistence, but Graceās middle name, Celeste, comes from Gray because of his love for the stars and all their potential.)

Penny Kane is a Cerberus agent assigned to the Normandy in ME2 to assist Dr. Chakwas and ensure that the reports she was turning in to Cerberus about Shepard and rest of the team were accurate. While sheās there she grew close to a few members of the Normandy crew, include Dr. Chakwas, Mordin, Gabby, and Joker. Post ME2 Penny leaves Cerberus and turns herself into the Alliance.Ā
When Shepard brings Dr. Chakwas back on board she asks Shepard to use her Spectre status to get Penny released to Shepardās custody, at which point she works on the Normandy until the end of the war. (Or I suppose Shepard could refuse, in which case sheās killed during the Cerberus attack on the Citadel, but thatās a much less fun option.) While on board she begins a relationship with James Vega after some initial distrust and them some very heavy flirting. The Reapers attack her home colony, killing most of her family. After the war sheās reunited with Ben, her older brother who survived the attack.
She was born on a mining colony where her mother was the head doctor and encouraged her to study medicine while she was young. When she was seventeen the colony was attacked which resulted in the death of her mother and eldest brother. Cerberus eventually came to stop the attack. Impressed with the skill she showed during and after the attack they recruited her. She worked overtime to catch up and keep pace with the rest of the team she was placed with, and she made enough of an impression that when the recruitment was being done for the Normandy crew her supervisor put Penny forward. (Later, once the safeguards on EDI are off, Penny learns that Cerberus knew that her colony would be attacked before hand, but waited until it was actually underway to do anything. That way they could swoop in, get some good will from survivors, and pick up people/materials/information in the chaos, which is why she turns on them when she has the chance.)
Penny was mainly inspired by two different sources of inspiration. The first is Nurse Chapel from Star Trek: The Original Series. Iād always thought that Dr. Chakwas should have someone to help her out like Bones did. The other was an idea I had had about the colonist origin for Shepard. I had wondered how things would have changed if Cerberus instead of the Alliance had saved Shepard. Thus the Penny was born. Sheās taken some twists and turns along the way since then, but I love the way sheās turned out.
