     he wants to believe that’s a compliment. but memory can be fickle, biased towards the bittersweet at best ( and the regrettable at worst ). for a child grappling with magic, whose standards could be higher than a preternaturally gifted parent’s?

He backed off quickly however, realizing how uncomfortable it might make her, especially after all this time since he’d seen her last. “Sorry, sorry, I’m... just relieved. And surprised. I would have figured Garrett would be trying to lock you away in a tower, like some princess with everything that’s going on.”

He paused, finally, for a breath, and his honey-brown eyes focused on Bethany’s face. “Are you... are you alright?”

     leliana has been focused the whole evening. watching every conversation that takes place around the room, looking for anything and everything that mentions the inquisition and their place in halamshiral. feeding any relevant information to the inquisitor, and watching them try to impress the court. she isn’t envious of them, she had tried to run in these circles herself during her youth, it isn’t something that she remembers particularly fondly. 

     but there has been a slight distraction, present all evening, and one that she can’t quite seem to put away. bethany hawke’s presence has been on the corner of her mind, and in the corner of her eye. lingering stares had led to warm smiles across the crowded room. once she finally finds bethany close enough to talk, the smile that had sit across her features begins to widen.
