Qerda & Company
WIP title.
an exploration of some of the countries and cultures along the Vuretho river during a perood of social and economic upheaval, through the eyes of four ordinary people.
Qerda: an Odaq woman from a farming village high in the mountains, apprenticed to Ei as a travelling cure-worker.
Ei: A travelling cure-worker (someone who performs exorcisms and occaisonally miracle cures, breaks curses and bestows blessings, a figure equally revered and reviled) drafted into the war with her young apprentice.
Nonnen: a baker's adopted son, who grew up in the steppes and shrubs of the foothills along the river Vuretho. his hometown was one of many that was mostly razed during the war.
Calien: a former dancer in Tuthar, injured in the bombardments of the capital city to such a grevious degree she can no longer perform. she is now returning up the river to a mother who sent her away more than a decade ago.
started as a screencap study from a parajenov movie but im actually really proud of how it ended up turning out 👍
You reblogged it so ask and ye shall receive. Dealer's choice on the OC!
#6: Has your OC ever had their heart broken? Have they ever truly recovered?
answering this for each of the foursome:
Ei would say she's never had her heart broken but she would be lying, even if she's tried to scrub the marks from her as best she can. her truest heartbreak and the one she refuses to touch, however, concerns her unhealthy attachment to Qerda, which she refuses to act on but causes her great pain.
Calien's had her share of heartbreaks, mostly the ordinary break-up type from her relationships with the other dancers. i think there's probably a form of bitterness and regret around Nonnen, and how fundamentally incompatible they would be in a relationship. she probably halfway recovers from that one, but even decades in the future, after the four go their separate ways, seeing Nonnen brings a lot back that she has a hard time handling.
Qerda's also had her heart broken a little by Nonnen but in a much gentler way; she just misses him & their adventuring days deeply when she's settled down with her common-law wife + she has weird feelings about Ei she doesn't quite know how to handle. but its fine. overall she and Nonnen are pretty well adjusted in their personal relationships. comparatively.
Nonnen's heartbreak was Qerda settling down with her wife after Ei's death, which more or less was the death of their youthful wandering days too. he still loves her dearly, and has spent many winters and a few summers under their roof but he can't stay in one place for long, and he's forever torn between a friend he loves dearly and his wandering which is a point of deep sadness with him.
anyway thank u thank u.... answering oc asks is genuinely so much fun
