Today, i was talking with my straight friend. We weere talking about her crush (of course i was asking all the "dyke older sister" questions) and she asked how i flirted with girls (to which i responded with a 90 second 'uhhhhh'), and we somehow got on the topic of trans people. Now, bear in mind, she is very ignorant to lgbtq issues, but is always well meaning. She said "Oh yeah, I wish everyone on Earth was trans, trans people are so nice". I smiled the "my kid just said something really cute" smile, just bc... its so pure. She of course doesn't know the struggles of trans people. She doesn't know the suffering. She just knows that the huge majority of trans people come out of, and live that pain, but are still kind, and are still nice. Just thought that was interesting
You don't have to be golden at pronouns!
I mean, obviously be respectful. Period. But no matter if you are accepting or not it is a change when someone uses different pronouns. For them too. But its okay if you arent perfect in the beginning! They too are getting used to it. But, if you make a mistake and catch yourself, don't make a big deal out of it. Lets say your friend was a "they" now. And you accidentally call them a "she" in conversation. Dont freak out. Just say "oh, my bad, they did that." Just please be nice!
Even though I've been around nb people for a few years, when ever i, or someone else refers to them as "they", I always think of them as like, super-powerful entities.
