Non binary as a label falls under the trans umbrella. This is what people usually refer to when they say "non binary people are trans". Trans has two meanings- one about how others view you, as distancing from the gender-sex binary and another about how you view yourself and your gender, as whether trans is a part of your identity or a descriptor you want to use.
Non binary people are part of the trans community, because being non binary defies the strict gender-sex binary, and therefore we're part of the community of marginalized people who defy said binary, we're all allies to each other for our shared experiences, oppression and also joy in our identities that the strict binary ignores and rejects.
Despite non binary being a label under the trans umbrella and non binary people being a vital, historically active part of the trans community, not all non binary people identify as trans!! And that friends, is totally valid!!
There's a vision of non binarinity as "not trans enough" "not outside/against the binary enough" that claims that non binary people *cant* be trans. That's false! So the response is "actually, non binary people are trans!! Being non binary makes you trans because it falls under the trans umbrella!!" And that's a valid counterargument, but also, it ignores that not all non binary people are trans! Some are cis! Some are neither!
You dont have to be trans if you're non binary, you dont have to describe yourself as trans or identify with transness to be non binary. But you are and always will be welcome as part of the trans community! That's the important point! You belong here if you want to! The community is for you too! Even if you're not trans!
So yeah, shout out to non trans non binary people and to cis non binary people, y'all are awesome and your identities are valid. You have a place in the LGBTQIA+ community and specifically in the trans community even if you're not trans, and you deserve to feel included!! I love you!!
