GRAMMY Nomination Predictions!
The nominations for music's biggest night will finally be released tonight. In order to prepare, I'm going to get out what I think the nominees will be/should be for the big four categories.
Let's start with Album of the Year:
Frank Ocean - Channel Orange
Mumford & Sons - Babel
The Black Keys - El Camino (seems forever ago, but that eligibility period does that to a person)
P!nk - The Truth About Love
Lionel Richie - Tuskegee
I don't care for Lionel that much but a lot of the old voters are going to give him the votes to get him into this category. Drake's album Take Care might sneak in here in place of Ocean's. There is only room for one of the two. The voters might also throw in a country album, so you might see Four the Record or Blown Away (Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, respectively) get into the category.
Record of the Year:
Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
Adele - Set Fire to the Rain
Drake - Take Care
fun. - Some Nights
Carly Rae Jepsen had a crazy year with Call Me Maybe and it would be surprising not to see it in this category. Adele is an obvious heavy hitter. Ocean might oust Drake with Thinkin' About You, but I think Drake will take him here. Like stated before, you can't forget about country. Over You by Miranda Lambert is the only country hit that comes to mind for maybe getting a nod here.
Song of the Year:
Adele - Set Fire to the Rain
Frank Ocean - Thinkin' About You
fun. - Some Nights
Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Mumford and Sons - I Will Wait
Adele and Ocean are the stand outs for the win in this category, since it is about the song writing itself. Gotye's song was technically released earlier than the eligibility period but I feel like the will bend the rules for it. So that would oust Taylor Swift. Pink might squeak in with Blow Me (One Last Kiss).
Now onto the last of the big four, Best New Artist. This category is the most up in the air since there were plenty of new artists this year. Here are the artists that get the noms:
fun.
Gotye
Frank Ocean
Ellie Goulding
Lana Del Rey
To be completely honest, the last two should get nominations but probably won't. Lana Del Rey got so much slack for SNL that it probably killed her shot at this. Goulding didn't have too much out in the eligibility period. The Lumineers, One Direction, The Wanted, Alabama Shakes, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Of Mice and Men have been in talks to. While Carly had a huge smash, her follow ups have been lackluster. The boy bands shouldn't get in, but if one had to, I'd pick The Wanted.
