some additional thought:

they/it, if they address themselves they will use "we"; the body is still just a bunch of roots mimicking shape of a solarian

they do not have a name, if you ask them for it. they'll react to root & the usual "hey, you"

it doesn't have its own distinct voice. i imagine their voice works similarly to a spirit box - tone & type of voice can change between words & it's not something to control, they gathered hundreds of voices - but sometimes it's possible to hear familiar ones :)

Since you’re asking for questions, how gentle is the root node, does it mimic the appearance of whoever is most connected to the roots?

in general root appears to be gentle towards creatures & items. with a body they're not used to actual interaction with things, they fear a bit to break everything. however influenced by Heng there's a visible bias towards handling Yi. not to imply that he's weak - quite the opposite & exactly that's why most of the time there's even more unusual carefulness while handling him; on the other end he's also only being that has to be handled with less mercy by it, even if just to bring him back

for the second part, it is not mimicking any exact appearance. it's a general idea of a solarian - loose copy of those that existed & exist now. also it is slightly limited on how they can look like considering how the roots are.

unfortunately the node does not have a mouth or any internal organs to eat

in simple words - node creature is still made only out of tentacles & energy! it doesn't require any basic necessities like sleep or food. inside of the "body" there's only 2 cores made out of energy! one is inside the head & gives eyes the glow, the other is inside the chest
