In case you were wondering, the water at Stone Valley is quite low and great for swimming right now. I was not planning on swimming on my hike but it happened anyway. Shadow dog and I went for a short hike yesterday. It started out quite lovely with me finding some mullin flowers that were perfect for picking. Then as I was checking out what was growing on the shore a random dog came out of the river! Shadow LOVED this but now we couldn't hike because I didn't want random dog to come with us. It didn't have tags but I figured it lived across the river so I rolled my sweatpants up and carefully tried to cross the rocks near the surface of the river and convince the dogs to follow me. This sort of worked and random dog did join me on a rock in the middle of the river for a bit, but not for long. The rocks were super slippery and I kept falling so eventually I just got in the water and swam across. The opposite shore was even more slippery so I had to crawl across it and then find the dog's owner who was busy on their riding lawn mower and hadn't noticed his dog was gone for 20 min while a weirdo human was falling all over the place on the edge of their property... Both doggos eventually swam across the river and then I swam back. Shadow dog however was afraid of the current and ignored all my efforts to get him to swim back. Finally I swam back, grabbed Shadow by his collar (which he thought was a very fun game) and then swim with him across the river. We had barely walked a mile but I was exhausted so we turned back for home. On the way out I found a ton of mugwort. Apparently mugwort is a folk remedy for bruises which after all my slipping on the rocks, I'm pretty sure I will be needing.... #hiking #nocofab
