Ranting about caped crusader’s ClayFace…

I think CC did a real nice job with Basil’s design and storyline. As I’ve been very vocal about on other social media platforms, I do not care for the “Mutant Monster” route that ClayFace has become known to be. From what I’ve gathered, Basil’s mutation seems to be more mood based rather than a physical deformity that he’s permanently stuck with, constantly. I mean, his face melts once Frances rejects him; I think it must worsen over time the more you can tell he’s lost himself. It must really be a mask he wears—A mask of emotion.

And as a *huge* Boris Karloff fan, the route they took to actually bring back the Basil that was BASED OFF OF HIM!!!! Was such a splendid experience to see. But it’s definitely something I understand can go unrecognized for people who may not know the original Detective Comics or Boris Karloff, himself. Dc did such a good take on Basil’s character; making him based off Boris and not his performances as a horror actor!!! I’ve loved seeing the way Basil turned out in Caped Crusader. I’ve loved seeing how he, unlike Boris, HATED being Typecasted…How he wanted to be beautiful! I’m probably looking far too into this, but as most Boris fans know, he is an Indian man who got whitewashed heavily. Even to this day, he is whitewashed. I do not think CC meant for Basil to be a rendition on the real struggles Boris faced when it came to his appearance, but it still came out this way—And I thank them for that However…Basil not being brown…Though, I am not surprised. I am a little curious on why he exactly isn’t? They did really good with their research, they did really good with making Basil resemble Boris (and still make him look like his own person), they even added Basil Rathbone references, which I’ve never seen before for any other Basil! So how come they chose not to make him brown like the man he’s based off? It’s a simple google search…Not to mention that we got colored films of Boris, where he may be much older, but he is definitely the skin color he has always been. lol. But as a Karloff fan…I am used to this.
