Okay there is an insane amount of lore behind this. But to cut a really long story short I basically gaslit myself into believing that

THIS image of Lyle was him wearing a mask due to misremembering the line of dialogue where Sam describes kissing Lyle as feeling like kissing a weird screen/ lens. I remembered the line instead saying it felt like kissing a weirdly smooth mask. And since Lyle's expression shifts completely I thought that his blushing sprite was in fact a clown mask that he instead made Sam kiss. This was back when the game first dropped so I would've believed anything at this point.

I also have this dustpan at home that looks like a clown (side by side pictured above) and because I took a two month hiatus from the game and only knew up to Day3/4 I only remembered this specific Lyle sprite. And since the idea of Lyle wearing a mask was on my mind, I associated the mask with the dustpan and eventually convinced myself into thinking that Lyle was a clown.

And something something, Lyle wears a mask because he doesn't want people to feel uncomfortable around him. Something something, Lyle used to be a party clown and photographer Pre-Visitor on the side and that's why he has the mask. Something something I saw a Reddit thread that spoiled Lyle's bossfight and I thought that Lyle dropped a clown mask. This was more or less how I knew Lyle for two months until I saw fanart of him of on here and realised that he is absolutely not a clown like I thought.
