Ok so we know that Dusknoir's main motivation for preventing Grovyle from changing history is self preservation right . Like he knows that everyone from the future will disappear when history is changed.

Hear me out. HEAR ME OUT.

Do you ever wonder if that self preservation could also be extended towards hero partially.

But Noah, I hear you saying (no I don't I made this the fuck up), Dusknoir openly tried to kill hero and partner in the stockade in the future.

Yeah, that did happen, but I'm talking closer to the end.

Dusknoir lets his cards (and simultaneously his walls, haha) drop after he's defeated at the rainbow stoneship,, where he tells the hero that they will also disappear if the future is restored instead of paralyzed.

Maybe part of him hopes that their mind will change- that if they don't want to die either he'll never have to kill them at all- they can both live as long as they turn around then and there to let temporal tower collapse, and dusknoir won't have to face losing either of these kids he has grown to care about when his mission directly conflicts that...
