Kris stood back, hands on their hips as they admired the hard work Tenna, Susie, Frisk and them put into setting up the pavilion for Chara's birthday with all manner of whimsy.
Kiddie pool filled with a combination of stolen ball pit balls and leafs, folding grill set up on one of the tables, banners and streamers, butterscotch cinnamon pies, a genuine mountain of hastily wrapped presents. Hand cut out "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" banner. Somewhere in the pile of gifts was a small stack of index cards with the recipes that Kris could remember their mom taught them.
That last one was mostly for Wolfwood, so he could cook nostalgic things for Chara whenever they needed it without having to go off of vague memories.
Did they stay up all night wrapping pilfered prize counter gifts and then the other things they were able to buy legally, and baking a couple butterscotch cinnamon pies? Yes. Did they drink that coffee Tenna offered them? Absolutely. Did it help? Nope. Not really.
There's definitely at least one gift in that pile with a drool stain on it from when Kris flat out conked out on top of it.
But they all got it put together. And when Chara arrived, they were ready to yell "Happy Birthday!" as loud as they could.
Hopefully Chara liked it.
