Have you ever done a breakdown of the bumbleby themes? Or do you have like, some favorite themes for them?
oh hell yeah,,, should definitely do something like that at some point.
for now,,,,, i really would have to go with the theme of interdependence and balance in partnerships, often reflected in the yin-yang motifs we see for them. blake and yang are pretty different people, not only in appearance and demeanor but also in terms of their motivations and priorities. the talk at mountain glenn, the v7 truck talk, and the v8 disagreement show us that they sometimes find themselves on opposing sides, but they have always shared core values around helping others in need. their distinct fighting styles also do a good job of reflecting this how they're very different on their own but still work well together. they shouldn't necessarily pair well together, but there's this core of caring and understanding between them that makes it work
gotta say i also love how this sense of balance is reflected in their personalities. yang is overtly sunny and fun and loud, but she has a deep sadness and loneliness underneath tied to a stolen childhood. people sometimes point to yangst really kicking in after she loses her arm, but it's there as early as burning the candle and maybe even her line in the yellow trailer. her darkness is an important part of her character, just as much as her love and her humor.
blake, on the other hand, appears aloof and quiet. and she has every right to be. she's had a very traumatic past,, and also a traumatic present, let's be real. and at the same time she has this,,,, bright spark of humor and light in her that has never gone out, even though she's been through so much. blake is funny. and she has a fierce love for people she cares about. that part has been really shining through recently. like one one level, i wish v7 and v8 gave blake more to do (all of team rwby really,, v9 please), but on another i'm grateful for how much they emphasized blake's growing lightness.
and of course i can't not mention little references the bees have to one another in their designs. i know that's sort of a rwby partner design thing in general, but intentionally or unintentionally the bees got a particularly intense version of this with the 'souls the color of each other's eyes' insanity. you can also see the show really lean into this with the bees over time with the continued presence of yang's purple bandana and yellow streak in gambol shroud.
anyway! that's just one theme!!!! and i didn't even talk about it as thoroughly as i maybe could!!!! love these bees!!!!!!
Do you have a list of all episodes without guests? Thanks!
