Maybe you can clean the dust of the chair. Maybe you can put some books, a jacket or whatever to make it look less empty. But you can only make it look. 

That's what John was thinking while adding a bunch of papers of the surgery at the pile of the chair. He had sort of a mechanism working in his mind; maybe the chair would be consumed by the amount of stuff and disappear. Anyways, you can't make the whole flat disappear. You can't make The Scotland Yard, Angelo's and Barts vanish in the air. London, stop existing in the map. 

But above everything, you can't make memories disappear.

Usually, he could get over this going out. Working in the hospital, going out, or just having a date with Mary. He had just met her but there was something about here that made him feel less depressed. The Doctor didn't feel like killing himself nowadays, just like in the first weeks. There was a combo that make him think of that again, though.

Rainy days and Mondays. Mary was not in London today. He went to the restroom and watched the gray hairs growing at the base of his neck. Time went slowly, and he eventually felt old.
